The Buzz: Ridley Scott's don't-care attitude toward the uproar over his casting white actors as Egyptians has received more attention than any aspect of this movie, but we don't think the people who have taken offense are also the target audience here. Remember that Noah experienced similar backlash before its release, and consider the liberties that story took and its considerable success. At least Christian Bale's Moses won't have to deal with rock giants and fallen angels.

Certificate R   -   Comedy

Metascore: 94/100 (5 reviews)

The Buzz: The industry loves Chris Rock's celebrity satire, but we're interested to see if the movie-going public embraces the comedy. Rock has hazed the entertainment industry for its racial stereotypes; way more importantly, he has commented on the Ferguson verdict, Obama's legacy, the allegations against Bill Cosby ... He's openly criticized Paramount for changing the release plan for the movie in favor of going wide on opening weekend. Is there any other actor-filmmaker like him in Hollywood? No. And now it seems he's put a movie where his mouth is.

Metascore: 84/100 (14 reviews)
In 1970, drug-fueled Los Angeles detective Larry "Doc" Sportello investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend.

The Buzz: Every Paul Thomas Anderson movie since Boogie Nights has been wildly anticipated and if anyone can turn a Thomas Pynchon novel into a successful film, it's Anderson - especially with a free-ranging cast you want to root for. And it seems as though Joaquin Phoenix is done with the self-satire bit and is back to mainly being a fine actor.

An army of passionate women launch a revolution to "Free the Nipple" and decriminalize the female body. Based on a true story, this mass movement of topless women, armed with First Amendment lawyers, graffiti installations and national publicity stunts, invade New York City to protest the backwards censorship laws in the USA.

The Buzz: With Pussy Riot's imprisonment, the Hobby Lobby decision, and Riot Girl bands reforming, it cool to see how this movie, which sprung from a real-world activist campaign that was backed by Michelle Rodriguez, Keira Knightley, Lena Dunham and others, fits into the larger conversation about women's rights and social justice. Speaking of Ms. Dunham, Nipple director/star Linda Esco just joined the cast of "Open", Ryan Murphy's sexually provocative pilot at HBO.
