Gideon calls me his angel, but he's the miracle in my life. My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own.
The vows we'd exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh. Instead they opened old wounds, exposed pain and insecurities, and lured bitter enemies out of the shadows. I felt him slipping from my grasp, my greatest fears becoming my reality, my love tested in ways I wasn't sure I was strong enough to bear.
At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we'd worked so hard for. We faced a terrible choice: the familiar safety of the lives we'd had before each other or the fight for a future that suddenly seemed an impossible and hopeless dream...

"What... what?!?!?"
An actual story. I'm still not clear on what the story is here. Nothing of consequence happened other than drama, drama, nagging, clinging, and more drama.
It's a shame that one of the best contemporary romance series has gone this route. It was doing so well until they decided money is of greater consequence than a good story. Now it's drawn out and irritating.
I'm a lover of books, both read and audible.
"CAPTIVATED. YES! THE END? SADLY NO."
I started reading The Crossfire Series and like most I was instantly caught up in the world of Gideon an Ava. I waited patiently for each book to be published so that I can stay up all night (always well worth it), to finish the book and enjoy their world. But now after four books, I’m almost at my end. Please don’t misunderstand, I loved this book. The heartache, the triumphs, the ups and downs, the raw grit and the love, painful in all its glory but now I just want my HEA. I think after everything that has happen, these two people deserve it more than anyone. As with Entwined in You, the story hasn’t progressed much since the last book and only spans a couple of weeks. Since this is the case, a lot of the healing process that needs to take place for Gideon hasn’t been achieved and I understand that but can we push this along just a little bit more. I love the fact that part of the book is told from Gideon’s POV. The reader finally gets a chance to understand his character. But the end of the book left so many lose ends, at this point, I will read the fifth book (hopefully it will be soon, hint hint Ms. Day) because I have invested soo much time, heartache and sleepless nights into this series I cannot do anything else. But Ms. Day, please deliver my HEA. PLEASE!!!
I like the dual narration of the story, allowing a male narrator to do the part of Gideon from his POV. But Jill does such a fantastic job; I really didn’t think that was necessary.
IMO, save the credit and buy the book. It’s under $10 and it’s well worth the read. But be warned, this book doesn’t contain an HEA and will leave with things being unsettled.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
"Rollercoaster Ride"
I am unsure on how to rate this book. I really liked the book but I am emotionally drained from listening to it. I was so invested in the characters and the story line and the hits kept on coming. I am trying to be objective considering the fact that it is the 4th in a 5 book series so I knew there would be no satisfaction at the end.
The books spans over a 3 week period in their relationship so it can't be resolved. If you understand the process of healing from sexual abuse you will get what she was getting at. She needed to develop that side of Gideon POV and that process is emotional and difficult to get through. Having said that, the Brett Kline thing was disappointing and I wish it would have been left out.
If you are invested in this series , you will enjoy this book but please be prepared for the roller coaster ride and understand that is purely character development and no significant advances in the storyline.
So in a direct appeal to Silvia Day. If you are at all reading your reviews. Thank you for showing the male perspective of a sexual abuse survivor and the consequences if you have not dealt with it. But please ........... for book # 5 let them both find their strength and claim their life. Finish their story line where it was worth for us to invest 3 years into this series. Skip the cookie cutter way out and span it over a few years not just weeks. If there ever was an extensive Happy Ending needed it would be in this series. Considering the time investment of the readers. I sincerely hope to see "One with you"published within a few months. Not years!!
The dual narration by Jill Redfield , Jeremy York was good. But Jill Redfield was so good with the delivery of the series I felt the added narrator was unnecessary.
"A Conclusion Would have been good."
It was just more of the same thing and nothing new. I wanted to like it, and while I didn't hate it, I'm left feeling annoyed that there's going to be another one. Just starting to seem more and more like money making scheme to be stretching out the story that doesn't have enough to be a huge series book, thus sort of losing the ART of novel. That's my opinion, I'm sure it was a delight to others. I'm not sure if I'm interested enough to get the next one when it comes.
"didn't give any answers"
Loved all the books but the last one .I waited along time to find out what was going to happen and it just didn't do it for me .having 2 different narrators didn't do it justice .If I would've known it was Going to be like that I wouldn't have spent the money so very disappointed
Depends
None
Refund
I am an avid "reader"- I prefer to listen to books rather than read them due to the added dimension added by the narrator.
"Not the end...."
This was the first book in which there were two narrators, one male and one female.
Each narrator does the voice at times, of the opposite sex. I did not feel as if the voice of Gideon was what I would have imagined his voice to sound like. It was not forceful enough.
The story was like a shit storm... It was almost as if Ms. Day was looking for things to mess Gideon up with, and I had trouble understanding why Chris Sr. saying he didn't know about the abuse, sent Gideon over the edge. Perhaps this will be explained in the next book. I feel like Gideon needs to work through his dreams and talk out his problems to the point where his nightmares stop... otherwise, there is no happy ending in sight. Common Ms. Day... help Gideon out!
"I waited YEARS for this??? I want a refund,"
Narrators were fine, and loved the first 2 Crossfire books,,,,then tolerated the 3rd, returning this fourth book
Not Sylvia Day
Jill has done a fantastic job with Ava and Gideon characters throughout series. Jeremy did a great job as well, but it was difficult to get used to his narration as Gideon when a listener has accustomed themselves to Jill's version. Jeremy is a fantastic narrator, don't get me wrong - it just changed Gideon in an unexpected way.
What a waste, So much intrigue and possibilities wasted. I would edit all but one chapter, condensing sentences from the very little new & interesting info given in this book. Im actually pissed that I waited so long for such a let down of a book to come out. I won't be waiting for the next, not worth it. Too many other author's like Kresley Cole, Karen marie Moning etc with books that actually MOVE a story forward.
Im getting a refund. I don't know if this is the authors fault or the editor trying to stretch out a story not meant for more than One book or Two. Think of all the interesting directions this book could've taken! Oh well, moving on.
"Another Great GidEva Story!"
No, I enjoy them both. I love jumping between the audio and print versions.
The closest is the Breathless series by Maya Banks and of course Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James.
I love it when the separate genders are handled by the two separate narrators, it is more authentic and enjoyable. Especially for narrators who engage the listener in the story.
Yes there were several, and I will not go into great detail of them in order to avoid any spoiler alerts.
Well let me start off by saying I loved it. This was a long time wait and highly anticipated, and as is the norm I devoured it in one day. With that said.....
At first I was disappointed that there were still so many lingering issues with Eva, it was my understanding that the end of the series were going to concentrate on working through Gideon's issues. Though I am happy that the lingering issues was cleaned up nicely and quickly. Gideon's issues..... wow, there were so many but I must say the handling of Gid and his issues are progressing nicely and realistically.
And let me just say I am LOVING the new format of jumping between Eva and Gideon's POV, it is so refreshing to get the male's POV. And in such a way that the male does not come off too effeminate, which I have read more and more recently. It is very nice to get inside Gid's head.
Finally, when I finished my recent re-read of Bared, Reflected and Entwined I was officially joined in the "Cary is a douche" club, and sadly after this book I still am. Yeah he came off a little better, but no I am not feeling him and his narcissistic ways at all.
With all that said, this was WELL WORTH THE WAIT and I look forward to the conclusion of Eva and Gideon's story in One with You. Though I will not lie and say I really want it to end. Watching these two grow together has been a journey that I have loved.

"Almost Sick of Gideon and Ava and Their Issues"
I liked having the two voices describing the differences between Ava and Gideon. Not sure this made it enjoyable because the story was just too, too icky. I liked the first three books very much and was anxious to get to this book so the story could be complete. But the story went backward with the band issues and with Gideon's former lovers and even with Ava and Gideon second guessing each other constantly. Perhaps knowing that this book and the incessant sex would end soon helped move the story along. Let's hope the next book finishes the story of these two lovers with a happy ending. I'd hate to have to have come this far and have their relationship fail. The best part was the ending.
You'd have to compare it to the other sexy love stories like 50 Shades of Gray but this book didn't have the feeling that you got from the first three books or by reading 50. I was disappointed with Book 4 in the Crossfire series and I really was anxious to get to it.
The two narrators bring the distinct differences in the attitudes of the two characters but even that didn't make the actions between Gideon and Ava feel comfortable. Let's make them love each other again without all the angst.
No. I don't think I would have been able to sit still. It made me want to walk around and throw something...not all the time...but enough that I couldn't have sat through it all in one sitting. The fact that I stayed with it says alot about my persistence to find out what's happening. I'll buy the next book too.

"On the Fence"
I'll finish this series, but I probably won't read anything else written by Ms. Day or read by these narrators. There really isn't much of a plot - just moving from one drama to the next. She doesn't have much concept of pacing. I keep thinking she's hinting at some action to come, and every time, she lets me down. I think Ms. Redfield got this job solely on her sex scene voices; the rest of the time she's pretty bland. There's nothing particularly wrong with Mr. York; I just think Gideon's voice should be a bit deeper.
The final scene was fine and showed promise (maybe these two are going to finally start making some healthy decisions). The few chapters up until that had a "much ado about nothing" vibe to me. I couldn't get as worked up over it. I just thinking "Of all the things to lose it on, it's THIS?"
It's mediocre.
Nope.
I am so TIRED of Cary and his drama. I have no sympathy for his character since he creates his own problems. I know Ms. Day's trying to create characters that are survivors, but the amount of dysfunctionality and unhealthy behavior exhibited in this book by practically every character is staggering. In the real world, most of these people wouldn't be famous, rich, or have a happy ending.
"Lacked depth"
Because I love Eva and Gideon sooooo much I would and have recommended this book to my friends, if only to hear their opinions.
it left me gagging for more in a disappointed kind of way.
Dont want to risk spoiling it for others.
Yes , how do I answer this without a spoiler? Let's just say I did shade a tear...
I felt after having waited for the book for such a long time it would have a lot of depth but was disappointed in that there was a lot of sex scenes when we could have moved on with the story. Don't misunderstand me I did enjoy the book but felt it centered a lot on their sex lives than on delivering the story. I loved the fact that we got to hear Gideon's PoV . Am still a big fan of Gideon and Eva and am hoping the last book will see them run off into the sunshine.
"Not up to scratch"
We've all been waiting for book 4, so perhaps the anticipation built too high for me.
The narration alternates between Gideon and Ava and, IMO, it spoils the build up of the story. The quality of the writing remains good (so, so much better than 50 Shades).
Quick synopsis: we learn more about Gideon's past trauma, his determination to protect Ava from her past. New threats pop up, too, and Gideon probably goes overboard to protect her. Ava, once again, breaks her promise to never leave and once again, rips Gideon's soul apart. That's how this book ends: they reunite.
Gideon has become my favourite of the two. He begins to face his demons head on, initially to keep Ava, but begins to recognise it's for himself. Ava fights the world to protect him but goes too far, pushing him too hard and too quickly.
And... here we are, waiting with anticipation for book 5!
"Quite Disappointing if you love the first 3 books"
Sylvia has set a bench mark with the previous 3 books in the Crossfire series and unfortunately this one is slightly lacking. It seems that the storyline is this book is almost a "set up" for whats to come and in typical american fashion I suspect a bumpy road with a "happily ever after" ending (Not saying I dont want it to be happily ever after for G&A;)
A nothing-ness ending which again promps me to say its a "set the scene" story for the future book(s).
Jill Redfield's voice IS the Crossfire Series. Even though I quite likes Jeremy York's voice and Gidions thoughts but I found myself looking forward to Eva's chapters.
If the right actors were cast then the movie would be amazing.
I'm hoping book 5 with return to the charatistic writings we were used to in 1-3.
"Head over heels for Gideon"
The audiobook option I chose as I cannot stop and read, plus I cannot skim and miss bits. I have listened and read the entire series and enjoy Ava's voice over my inner one.
The first words. The fact they were Gideons. It has altered my perspective of the story, of Gideon and changed my feelings of Ava too. Maybe a mystery man should stay a mystery in female fiction?
Ha ha ha, the sex swing.... Intrigued!
When Ava left. I was nearly in tears, felt physically wretched. I had to reach out to my husband for a bit of reassurance it was not my own emotions I was feeling.
As much as I love this book I feel its a stop gap filler. I get there are big moments but meeting your soul mate (book one) feeling the fire of passion and jealousy (book two) and stalker/murder intrigue (book three) left four as alot of tying loose ends. That's usually the final book. I feel a bit sad that all I can imagine next is wedding bits and I'm not a wedding bits gal.
I also feel a bit odd that I am on Gideons side alot. I am an old fashioned gal and would be exactly as Gideon imagines, vs the whole 21st century Ava attitude. Sometimes she seems to make him jump thro hoops! I love love love them both though and want to have the happy end I wish every couple. This story series makes me hold my husband tight and show him he's my world even after 15 years, and getting more special every day. Thanks Sylvia
"So Dissapointing!"
Yes I would try another Sylvia Day book. I love Jill Redfield , but I really didn't like Jeremy York narrating. I think Jill Redfield does a fantastic job on her own.
I have loved the other three books and couldn't wait for book 4, but I found the story line really weak. I was so disappointed. I didn't like the way the book ended. We will probably have to wait another 18 months for the next one now.
I didn't like the fact that it was narrated by two people. It was as though Gideon's personality had changed. I love the way Jill Redfield narrates. She is amazing.
No, not really.
Overall, a really disappointing read, especially after waiting so long for it to be published.
"Dissapointed"
I was disappointed as the story seems to be so slow and I expect we will have to wait months for the next one
Kristen proby
I would cut less sex scenes and have more depth in the story.
Please don't make us wait to long and less have more conclusion although I love these two character it's abit drawn out.
