It also easily slips in the pocket and is barely noticeable.

Hopefully Gerber will correct this and not give in to cheap sollutions for the purpose of financial profit.

This is a great light to keep with my kayaking gear, or in my car when I am not on the water.

First I will confirm I bought the product and am not associated with anyone selling it or making any products I mention.

How we rate things depends on our expectations. I take my expectations from my image of Bear and the product description only.

The description calls this a survival tool. I will come back to this claim in the conclusion.

IMPROVEMENTS SUGGESTED:

A mega flaw is not having a glow in the dark bit on it so you can locate it in the dark! Very simple, but would be a life-saver if dropped when off, or if trying to turn it on in a dark situation!

Although it seems shower and water resistant, the maker have avoided stating anything about protection from water so they can avoid liability I guess. To be a true emergency tool or go anywhere item as we expect from BG stuff, I want waterproof. It's strange because BG himself says on his own website sales page for it "They weigh nothing yet can make a critical difference if your main torch or kit gets WET or lost! (attach them to your key-ring or back pack and thank me when when the unexpected happens!)"

Much longer battery life would make this a lot more interesting and a true emergency tool, the sort of thing I'd expect from BG again.

For those using the flashing light for visibility, eg riding a bike, the light switches off after 5mins so you might forget it has turned off as you cycle or walk near a road ect. You will need to remember to turn it on. Not so safe. But because of the low battery life it is clear it is not intended for this use except a one-off occasion where your usual flashing light is un-uesable.

LIKES:

I must admit that I mercilessly pulled at the line and it withstood the abuse.

When I first got this I thought it would not be very bright. But I was wrong. It is a very bright light, it also flashes and has a energy saver mode. I am very happy with my purchase.

I use this on my keychain and have several on my pack. it is extremely handy and better designed than most micro led's but if used often at all it will ran down the battery very fast. I tried to replace the batteries but could not find them locally.

This light has a focused beam and the iPhone has a floodlight, making the initial brightness assessment difficult, however, I found that by pointing the two lights at the ceiling to alternately illuminate the whole room, they were just about identical in their output. With smartphones displacing the niche that such micro-lights once dominated, the Micro Torch's appeal partially depends on what your are accessorizing with it. I affixed mine to the utility loop of my Berkey Sport Bottle (which I keep at my bedside both at home and at camp). When reaching for the bottle's grip, the light's button is in just the right spot. When I close the bottle, the light lifts in to an angled position, making for a desk-light that is perfect for reading, picking splinters, etc.

This light comes with the Bear Grylls Priorities of Survival guide:

Initial impression: a worthless gimmick included to help justify an inflated price
Revelation 1: the guide unfolds in to a nice "origami" square
Revelation 2: the guide is waterproof!

Using my 2nd grade origami skills, I folded the guide in to a ultralight paper (plastic?) "survival" cup capable of holding water, Ramen, or natural materials for an improvised water filter.

It could also be unfolded for a "clean" surface on which to prepare food.

Oh yeah - it also has survival tips and rulers printed on it.

If the guide was certified as non-toxic, I could appreciate it a little more. I cant imagine ever using it, but I went ahead and threw it in my pack, as it weighs nothing and takes up no space.

Pros:
Light weight.
The attachment cord is well made and appears like it will take some abuse.
The light is fairly bright for what it is (an emergency light, not a standard flash light).
I like the orange color; if you dropped it, it would be easy to locate (at least during daylight).
The light automatically turns off after 5 minutes (some may consider this a Con).
3 modes high, low and blinking (sorry, I don't consider "off" a mode).

Cons:
Like another reviewer pointed out, if you drop this at night and the light is off, good luck finding it. A small glow in the dark part on the case would have made this all the better.
Price, I think this should be a dollar or two cheaper. If it was, I would buy more.
Not sure it would be easy to change the battery is less than ideal conditions, but I haven't tried yet.

Notes:
I have no comment on the battery life as I have not run the battery down yet. I am not expecting a battery that'll run for hours and hours. I expect to use this in an emergency for short periods of time, it seems to suit that purpose. The claims about water resistence are a bit sketchy. Certainly the product information leads one to believe you can attach this to a jacket zipper and go out in the rain and use it. That being said I wouldn't submerge the light in water, it may not survive that test.
