"I have to say that in my early days of use with the Voyage, I'm already loathe to give it up."
– Tech radar

"No previous e-reader has managed that leap to being glamorous – the sort of thing you’d show off on the tube. This slim, sharp-angled beauty is exactly that – and it’s going to be on a lot of bookworm’s Christmas lists."
– The Metro

"The Voyage is the best eReader we’ve ever seen, refining everything from the previous Kindle."
– Expertreviews.com

"The Kindle Voyage is an ereader for someone who wants the very best reading experience."
– TrustedReviews

Brilliantly crisp display

NEW – The high-resolution display (300 ppi) features sharp, dark text that reads even more like the printed page. The micro-etched glass screen is crafted to eliminate glare and feel like paper to the touch.

Effortless page turns

NEW – PagePress allows you to turn the page without lifting a finger. Simply apply pressure on the bezel to turn the page, and PagePress will provide a silent haptic response for consistent and immediate feedback.

Light that adjusts with you

NEW – Kindle Voyage can be read in sunlight or total darkness—and it's smart enough to know the difference. With a new adaptive front light, Kindle Voyage senses the light in your environment and changes the setting to the ideal brightness.

Remarkably thin design

IMPROVED – At just 7.6 mm, Voyage is our thinnest Kindle ever. Comfortably hold Voyage in one hand for long reading sessions.

PagePress sensors with haptics

PagePress is a custom-designed force sensor made of carbon and silver, which reacts to a subtle increase of pressure, triggers a page-turn and provides a haptic response only your thumb can perceive. Because PagePress has no moving parts, the haptics provide you with the most minimal indication that you have pressed the button, to reduce distraction from reading.

Adaptive front light

In order to more closely resemble reading on real paper, we researched and hand-tuned the optimal brightness setting for every lighting condition. The new adaptive front light automatically adjusts the brightness of the display based on your environment, and can even be fine-tuned further to your personal preferences. When reading in the dark, the adaptive front light slowly lowers the display’s brightness over time to match the way the eye responds to darkness.

An unparalleled 300 ppi display

Kindle Voyage features the brightest, highest resolution, and highest contrast display of any Kindle. The micro-etched glass display diffuses light to eliminate glare and matches the feel of paper.

Sleek yet durable design

At only 7.6 mm, Voyage is our thinnest Kindle ever. Kindle Voyage was designed to come one step closer to a sheet of paper, with a flush-front bezel for a clean, streamlined design. With a magnesium back and a chemically-reinforced glass front, Kindle Voyage is both durable and sleek.

I own the Kindle Keyboard (`KK'), the Kindle Paperwhite 2 (i.e. 2013's model) (`PW2') and now the Kindle Voyage (in effect, the Kindle Paperwhite 3). I will compare the three and give my opinion on whether the upgrade is worth it. I will also give my personal opinion on whether or not paying extra for the 3G version (of this or any Kindle) is worth it. As some people will be new to the Kindle, I will cover a few basics first.

1. BASICS - WHY BUY A KINDLE?

It used to be the case that there was, arguably, not much of an advantage of a Kindle over physical books. Kindle books used to be virtually the same price as new paperbacks, which always seemed wrong, and paperbacks had the advantage that you could pass them on after you had read them.

The game changer, in my opinion, was the Kindle Paperwhite due to its frontlight. At that point, Kindles offered a distinct advantage over paperbacks - you could read books in the dark (with a light so subtle that it is unlikely to wake up your partner in bed). But the frontlight goes beyond that - it improves reading indoors in daylight, and makes the screen appear more white, like paper (without the light, the screen looks green or grey). The frontlight can be found on the Paperwhite 1, Paperwhite 2 & Voyage.

What also changed was the pricing - Kindle books started to cost less than paperbacks, often significantly so. Further, Amazon runs sales regularly (for example a Summer Sale, Autumn Sale, Christmas Sale, Spring Sale etc. - they even had one for the Golden Jubilee) where books are discounted, often to approximately 99p. Amazon also runs a Daily Deal where books are discounted until midnight (they started with one book per day; now it tends to be three or more). Recently it has added a Monthly Deal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Incompatability Issues with new Kindle Voyage 19 Nov 2014
Connectivity Technology:Wi-Fi + Free 3G|Verified Purchase
Buyer beware! Since buying this device I have discovered that some of the books advertised as being available for purchase / download on to Kindle are, in fact, incompatible with the new Kindle Voyage. This has been checked out and found to be so by the Amazon help desk team. Because these books are needed for work (and having them on a Kindle device would make searching for references easy) I am seriously having to think about buying a previous version of Kindle.
Needless to say I am not impressed - particularly as there was no advance warning about this shortfall in either the spec or advance publicity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it 4 Dec 2014
Connectivity Technology:Wi-Fi Only|Verified Purchase
I was a bit unsure if it was worthwhile replacing my much loved Paperwhite, but couldn't resist it after reading the reviews. I love my Voyage. The text is clearer and easier to read. Page turning is smooth and simple. I find that I like to set my own light level rather use "auto", but have no problem with tired eyes. If you like to get stuck into a good book and read for hours, the Voyage is for you.

I kept doggedly on with my Kindle Keyboard, which worked absolutely fine as a reader, and missed the Touch and The Paperwhite 1 and 2 because I had become happy with pressing the page to turn, and wanted to avoid my often grubby fingers endlessly greasing the screen.

But where the KK was too frustrating to stay with, was the ponderous underlining, note-making and Go To Searching with the 4 way button.

So...........the Voyage get some good, very detailed early reviews, particularly from the first spotlit one by Mr G. whose review was enormously helpful, and make me take the plunge.

I was prepared for the month long delay while Amazon were waiting new stock, as their return policy is so much better than anyone else's, so just in case the Voyage didn't please me as much as I hoped it would, it seemed a better idea than getting it immediately from another retailer who would only allow return of faulty goods.

Well, the month long delay raised my expectations higher and higher, and I'm pleased to say I haven't been disappointed.

However, reading the reviews it is clear that there IS a fault on some of them, as several reviewers have complained about variable light on the screen, bottom to top. I'm a lucky one without this annoyance.

Yes it is a big price jump, from Paperwhite to this, but for me, the page press, the adaptive (and adjustable) built in light, the sharp sharp sharp resolution, the good choice of personalisation (pressure sensitivity, touch feedback, lighting level, choice of fonts, sizes, landscape or portrait reading, margins on page etc) are spiffy. I think some of these were also included in Paperwhite, but not all. One very happy reader with her reader

I received mine a couple of days ago as an upgrade from the basic Kindle and am still putting it through its paces.
The type is crisp and clear (makes my old Kindle seem almost blurred and fuzzy)
The light is great (the reason I wanted to upgrade from the basic model) and the auto adjustment is very convenient. I'm looking forward to using it during my commute - no more having to stop reading when we go into a tunnel. I never wanted the Paperwhite as I'm a fan of the physical page-turn buttons. To be honest, if Amazon had added a light to the basic Kindle instead of making it tactile, I'd have gone for that instead.
The PagePress buttons do take a little getting used to: I'm not quite sure I've found the optimum pressure adjustment yet. Also, when you read in the dark, finding where to press is touch and go!
One small gripe: why on earth did they put the power button on the back and not on the bottom edge? It's really not convenient! I hope Klevercase can adapt their design so I can use one of their lovely book covers. In the meantime, I'm using a simple book cover I already had, which fits because the device is just held by strong elastic. It does the job but is a bit plain. When I want to wake the screen, I slip a finger between the Kindle and the cover and press the button. It works but it would have been so much easier if the button had been located on the bottom edge.
Apart from that, I'm very happy with the Kindle Voyage and am looking forward to achieving the same degree of comfort as with my old Kindle, where I almost forgot I wasn't reading a physical book.
