versus
3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK
It makes a decent cup of coffee but I was expecting better.
I decided to keep it in my RV as a back-up for when power is not available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best coffee at my house and at the office comes out of this thing., July 15 2013

Bought one of these for home a couple years ago and made the good coffee I enjoy at home even better. Decided that when the office I work in downgraded their coffee from meh to blech, I hoped that it would be brought back up to meh if run through my Aeropress. It actually made it enjoyable rather than tolerable. After sharing it with a couple colleagues I couldn't get it out of the office again so I had to buy another one. In actuality this is my 4th Aeropress I have purchased and gifted 2 other to family who also love them. 2 were purchased from Aeropress website, one from a local shop and the latest one from Amazon.ca which was the best price of the lot by a long way.

FYI the unit I received is brownish as all 3 others I purchased were, not gray as stated in the description. I've sen the gray ones before at a coffee stand at a local farmers market so I know the difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good coffee. Easy Cleanup., July 16 2013

This review is from: Aerobie 83R01 AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker, Gray (Kitchen)
The coffee from the Aeropress is strong but never bitter, which is a nice change from the french press that I used to use. It can also be used to brew a coffee concentrate, which works nicely as a base for espresso-based drinks.

Clean up is a cinch compared to the french press too. It literally takes 10 seconds to dump out the grounds and rinse everything off.

At first, I didn't like the idea of having to throw out paper filters, but the instructions actually say that you can rinse and reuse them. I use each filter for two brews instead of one, so now the 350 filters that came with the aeropress will last me two years instead of one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee!, Aug. 24 2014

This review is from: Aerobie 83R01 AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker, Gray (Kitchen)
I was looking at buying a fancy espresso maker, but since I only drink coffee at home on the weekends, and I'm the only one in the house who drinks coffee, I decided to be reasonnable and hold on spending 600$ on a great espresso machine. Instead, I trusted the positive reviews for the AeroPress, and I'm glad I did.

This device makes great coffee. I does use a bit more coffee than an espresso, but the money saved on the purchase makes up for it. Of course, it's much better if you use high quality, fresh coffee.

Here are a few tips I can share:

- You may use a paper filter for more than one cup. I typically make 2 cups with each.
- When you pour the water, it may start to drip a bit in the cup, something you want to avoid if you want the water to remain in contact with the coffee to get some taste. To avoid it, place the "press" cylinder on top right away. The air chamber on top will prevent the water going down, because of a succion effect.
- Press your coffee until your start hearing bubbles or seing pitting in the coffee grounds.
- To clean, remove the bottom and press directly in the garbage bin.
- If you have a boiler on which you can select temperature, I find 85 C to be a great temperature.

5.0 out of 5 stars honestly?, Nov. 11 2013

hate to say it, but I like this thing better than my espresso machine.

I got it as a temporary fix while my machine was getting replaced under warranty, but turns out the Aeropress is a lot more convenient to use and consistently produces comparable if not better espresso coffee than my espresso machine.

I'm very satisfied with this thing. If you're thinking about it and worried about the quality of espresso, don't be. the absence of crema, which the Aeropress cannot produce does not take substantially away from the taste of quality beans and a good burr grind.

Remember two things, however:

1) use the inverted method (youtube it)
2) make sure you heat your water to the right temperature (3/4 to boil or ~85C)

Such a brilliant little device! I use it daily for coffee for me and my husband and I have even used it for loose-leaf tea! I wanted something small since I do not have any counter space to spare, and this is perfect for me. I make a concentrated brew right in my thermal carafe, and then I just rinse it and put it away to dry in its storage containger (found a cute tupperware just the right size). Takes me less than 2 minutes and coffee is done!

Not sure this makes amazingly better coffee, but it is still my favorite coffee maker of all times, way ahead of french presses and percolators!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and makes very, very good coffee., Nov. 28 2014
This review is from: Aerobie 83R01 AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker, Gray (Kitchen)
After using it for a year: AeroPress makes great coffee, every time. And it is easy to use. I don't bother with all the gear it comes with, using only the plunger and cylinder and a stainless-steel filter. I have a 1-cup stove-top espresso maker that I've used for 30 years and it makes great coffee too, but it takes almost 10 minutes to clean it, set it up and wait for it to do its thing, before giving me pretty good espresso. My AeroPress is way easier and quicker. While water is boiling, I pop the puck of old grinds into the compost bucket, rinse off the plunger and filter, put the filter and cap on and put in three scoops of (freshly ground) beans. (A note on filters: get the stainless steel one and avoid faffing around with wasteful, throw-away paper filters.) Pour in boiled water, wait a minute, stir it, plunge. Great espresso every time. Very highly recommended from someone who has tried all the other methods of making coffee.

5.0 out of 5 stars You gotta get one of these!!, Aug. 27 2014

I love this product! It makes the perfect espresso shot or when used in the inverted method a larger amount of coffee for "large size" lattes or cappuccinos. I purchased this espresso maker and a milk frother and no longer spend $100+ a month in coffee shops trying to satisfy my specialty coffee needs!!
I watched a couple of youtube videos on the different ways to make coffee using the Aerobie and I was making the richest coffee I have ever tasted in minutes. Very easy to use and even easier to clean!!
Every person on my Christmas list is getting one this year..........

This magical device was suggested to me by a friend who considers himself a connoisseur when I mentioned that I might purchase the ROK manual espresso machine/press. Oh what a delight, to find that this makes a super strong espresso-like beverage and a fraction of the cost. The flavor of the coffee is amazing...I think I will need to add a reusable filter to my kit, since I am burning through these filters...

This is a great little product, and much better tasting coffee that either Bodum or other French Press (using a finer grind).

Easily the best coffee maker I've ever owned. Even if you're stuck using shoddy coffee with a bad grind, the cup still comes out great. Add in some good beans with a proper grind, and you'll never again feel the need to head to a coffee shop.

I take this car camping EVERY TIME, and even when I'm backpacking I still do whatever I can to bring this along. Easy to use, no mess.

My girlfriend loved it so much that she demanded I buy a second one so she can use it even when I've taken mine to work.

I bought this for my wife and I after we started second guessing our Tassimo purchase. The coffee from those single cup brewers seems stale and doesn't have much (or any) caffeine kick. A relative of mine is a barista and recommended the AeroPress for home use. This device takes a little longer to brew a cup, but it's definitely worth the time and effort. It makes a nice, rich coffee. The only thing missing is the crema, but I think I can live without that. Definitely loving this purchase!
