Derbyshire Clubs Get Inspired Facilities Boost
Burton and Staunton Harold are both investing in training provision
Two Derbyshire sailing clubs will get a boost in teaching more people to sail after they successfully secured funding through the sixth round of Sport England’s Inspired Facility Fund.
Burton SC and Staunton Harold SC will receive £49,000 and £56,000 respectively in what is both clubs' second successful Inspired Facilities application.
The 2014 RYA Club of the Year, Staunton Harold, will be using the funding for the expansion and modernisation of its training facilities.
Their project includes refurbishment and modernisation of the existing training room including addition of facilities for the disabled, an extension to the boathouse and lengthening the training slipway for access to the water at low water levels.
Burton, meanwhile, are building a new facility to support and expand its sailing, windsurfing and powerboat training and to run multiple training sessions simultaneously.
This funding marks the second phase of developments to the club’s training provision, following its previous Sport England-funded project in 2012, which enabled the club to construct a new bespoke training centre.
Burton SC Commodore, David Bell, said: “We are overjoyed to receive this second round of investment from Sport England, which will allow us to continue to develop our ever-expanding training provision.
“Our first phase of expansions enabled us to treble our annual training provision during 2013 and with this second phase secured we’ll be in a strong position to develop an even wider programme of courses including windsurfing, race training and much more.”
Inspired Facilities is Sport England’s £110 million programme that funds the renovation and modernisation of local sports facilities. Since 2011, Inspired Facilities has been helping breathe new life into tired community sports facilities and converting existing buildings into venues suitable for grassroots sport.
