Want to be a better Race Officer?
Two regional race officer courses coming up in the south west
The Olympics may be over, but there is still a great need for well-trained experienced race officers.
The Regional Race Officer qualification is a good step up the ladder helping you to appreciate the complexities of running high-level racing and gain confidence with the pressures this can bring.
Ideally you will have completed a Club Race Officer course in the past and have some experience with race management at your sailing club.
The RYA are running two RRO courses this winter in the South West Region, one at Falmouth and the other at Chew Valley near Bristol. The course is a weekend event, so you may need to sort accommodation on the Saturday night. Details are on www.rya.org.uk/racing/raceofficials/wanttobearaceoffical/courses/Pages/racemanagement.aspx
The cost is £75, but your club may be able to provide some assistance with this. You will need to register and pay directly with the RYA, using the link above.
Having completed the course, you may be eligible to apply for RRO status, though you must comply with the ‘experience criteria’ as outlined on the website. Don’t worry though, if you haven’t yet got the necessary events under your belt, you can hold your course qualification (known as CRO+) while you carry on extending you race management experience to the required level.
