Summary of Changes to LinkedIn Privacy Policy
We have revised our Privacy Policy as of October 23, 2014.
This summary is meant to help you review and understand what’s changed in our Privacy Policy. However, we also recommend you read the full document, since its terms apply to you whenever you view, access, or use LinkedIn’s Services.
There are two main reasons we changed our Privacy Policy: to make it clearer, and to reflect our recent acquisition of Bizo, Inc. You can read more about this acquisition on our Marketing Solutions blog.
-
Introduction
- 1. We added the Bizo advertising platform to our definition of Services.
-
Section 1.4 – Address Book and Other Services That Sync with LinkedIn
- We noted that the information we receive through address book imports may include phone numbers.
- We clarified the information that we may use to suggest potential connections to you.
-
Section 1.5 – Customer Service
- We explained that we may review your InMails and contributions to our Services (e.g., group postings) in order to provide you with customer support. We confirmed that we do not use this information for advertising.
-
Section 1.6 – Using the LinkedIn Sites and Applications
- We clarified that the usage information we collect may include search queries and job applications and interaction with advertising off of our Services.
-
Section 1.7 – Using Third-Party Services and Visiting Third-Party Sites
- Because we depersonalize plugin impression data (i.e., the information that you visited sites carrying our social plugin, but which you did not click on), we removed the reference to an opt-out setting.
- We added that we collect information about your visits and interaction with the sites and services of our partners that include our cookies and similar technologies, unless you opt out.
-
Section 1.8 – Cookies
- We added that we may use cookies and similar technologies to learn about your interests both on and off our Services.
-
Section 1.9 – Advertising Technologies and Web Beacons
- We clarified that besides our ad targeting we also measure ad performance.
- We clarified that we may use contact information (e.g., hashed email address matching), group participation, pages you visit and log data (e.g., IP addresses) for ad targeting.
- We clarified that the third parties we receive information from include advertising partners, publishers, and data aggregators.
- We added that advertising partners may associate personal information collected by the advertiser directly from you with our cookies and similar technologies, in which case we would require such advertisers to obtain your explicit opt-in consent before doing so.
- We added an option (for both members and non-members) to opt out from our tracking of behavior on third party sites, replacing the opt-outs from ads served to you on third-party sites and our use of information from advertising partners to target ads.
-
Section 1.10 – Log Files, IP Addresses, and Information About Your Computer and Mobile Device
- We clarified that we receive URL data from sites that include our plugins, cookies, or similar technologies.
- We clarified that we may use your location data for fraud prevention and security purposes.
-
Section 2.3 – User Communications
- We noted that we use automatic scanning technology to identify malicious links, malware, and spam in your inbox, updates, and group contributions.
-
Section 2.4 – Service Development; Customized Experience
- We clarified that we use member information for research and development.
-
Section 2.6 – Sharing Information with Third Parties
- We explained the visibility of your professional profile to other members.
-
Section 2.10 – Groups
- We noted that members who can see your posts may include advertisers and that group contributions are typically public and searchable unless the respective group is closed to public discussions.
-
Section 2.17 – Data Processing Outside Your Country
- We clarified that we may process your information outside the country where you live.
-
Section 3.1 – Rights to Access, Correct, or Delete Your Information, and Closing Your Account
- We noted that you can also request your information that is not readily accessible to you (e.g., not on your profile).
-
Section 3.2 – Data Retention
- We added that we de-personalize plugin impression data after seven days.
-
Section 3.3 – Your Obligations
- We deleted this section because it was redundant with the User Agreement.
