He took the overall World Cup title in 2004 to give himself the perfect build up to Athens. At the Olympic course, he led after the semi final, but eventual Champion Benoit Peschier produced a superb final run, and Walsh approached his last run with caution. In fact he slipped to third but took the silver after another Frenchman Fabien Lefevre was penalised.
To add to his canoeing achievments, he has a MSc in Mathematical Physics from Nottingham University. His mum is a Maths teachers and his sister Kimberley was a slalom canoeist.
Walsh has overcome the disadvantage of being light to become an excellent technical paddler. Currently racing in a tailor-made boat he developed himself.
