Commodore's Welcome

COMMODORE'S WELCOME
Welcome to the Clyde Cruising Club Website. The Club also has a Facebook page and please visit it if you want to see the latest photos from events and comments. If you have ideas on how to improve your Club's website please contact me via email commodore@clyde.org so we can improve what is on offer. We are now nearing the end of a good Scottish Summer and many members have had great sailing out on the West Coast. The weather as always can play tricks and one fine day leads to a gale preventing further sailing, and so it happened to the Troon to Largs race in August when the return voyage up the Clyde was stopped with 40 knot winds.

Patrick Trust, Commodore with Clyde Challenger for Silvers Marine Scottish Series

The 40th Silvers Scottish Series, which is the Club and Scotland's premier yacht racing event, was held over 4 days in late May at Tarbert Loch Fyne. The event went well with a combination of passage races and round the cans to suit all types of boats and sailors. It was great to see 97 yachts taking part and I hope we can make 100 yachts for the series in 2015 so put the dates 22nd to 25th May into your diary and enjoy the social scene with the sailing. The musters and races which followed in the summer were enjoyed by many but we can always welcome more boats and crews. West Highland Week and Clyde Cruising Club altered our summer race dates to avoid clashing with the Commonwealth Games and this seemed to help everyone enjoy all the events on offer. Our August muster at Loch Spelve also enabled the Club to acknowledge the members who gave their lives during the First World War with the Roll of Honour going to Spelve for the names to be read 100 years from the start of that dreadful war.

The GSS CCC North Clyde Regatta was held on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September. This was a two halves event with Saturday starting with dense fog and then sunny but no wind so the 37 yachts returned to base. However, Sunday was another story with three good races in a freshening north easterly breeze. Then the closing muster at Tarbert on 27th September is always a good sail with a dinner that evening in the Tarbert Hotel but you must book in advance.

Membership of Clyde Cruising Club has other benefits and I carry my 'bibles' on the boat which are the best source of information for our West Coast Waters. These CCC Sailing Directions are well presented and researched and the latest edition of 'Ardnamurchan to Cape Wrath' was launched at the London Boat Show this January. It is worth becoming a member just to get the discount when buying the Sailing Directions from the club office. I hope you have a good finish to the season in 2014 and I look forward to meeting you at the Closing Muster or Annual General Meeting on Monday 17th November and the Annual Ball and Prize Giving on Saturday 22nd November.
