Hawk flying at Hamble Point Marina

Monday, 20 October 2014

Many of the tenants and the sellers of yachts ashore here at Hamble Point Marina have been complaining about the amount of bird ‘poo’ on the yachts. We wash down our boats every two weeks, but at one point it was a complete waste of time. The birds, many starlings, come in at about 4pm after feeding on the berries that were behind our yachts. No amount of shouting, honking horns or banging things would dislodge them.

MDL agreed to get rid of the blackberry shrubs and have employed a Pest Control company. They have a number of birds of prey that they use for pest control.

The starlings period of annoyance is mainly August, September and October – the berry months, and by getting rid of the food source, and flying the birds of prey the starlings and this years babies should log it in their minds not to comHawk picture bird pest 1e here next year.
