Competitions

Results of all the preliminary competitions for the British Modern Biathlon Championships will be combined to create a rankings list which shows the qualifying athletes. The championships will be held at The Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, Blossomfield Road, Solihull, B91 1NB on 29th & 30th November 2014.

U10, U11, U12 athletes will compete on Saturday and all other classes on Sunday.

The following number of athletes attending the Regional Biathlon Championships organised by the Pentathlon GB Regions have automatically qualified for the British Modern Biathlon Championships:

The top six scoring individuals (with competition scores of 2000 points and above) plus the three individual members of the first placed affiliated School/Club team (minimum 5000 points) in the U10, U11, U12 and U13 classes.

The top three scoring individuals (with competition scores of 2000 points and above) plus the three individual members of the first placed affiliated School/Club team (minimum 5000 points) in the U14, U15, U16, U17 and U19 classes

Other highly ranked individuals who have entered a competition organised before 20th October and have not qualified under the above criteria will be invited to participate. There isn’t a defined number of places for each class therefore additional invitees will be offered places on merit rather than their place on the rankings list.

On the rankings list those athletes that have qualified will be shown as follows:

  1. Individual qualifiers have a Q against their name
  2. Team qualifiers are denoted by QT
  3. Some competitors will qualify as both individuals (Q) and as members of a team (QT)
  4. Those who have achieved a 'ranking list' place because of their performance at a preliminary competition have QR against their name

Competing here is a great opportunity to gain valuable competition experience and for school age athletes to improve run and swim times for the British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships rankings list which will be published in January 2015.

If you compete in more than one preliminary competition, the best combined score will be included on the rankings list. If you have scored the same points over two or more competitions, the score with the best swim time will be used.

Scores are adjusted to that of a 25m pool (the length of pool at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre) for the ranking list as shown below.

POOL LENGTH 200m Swim 100m Swim 50m Swim
50m to 25m - 2.5 secs - 1.1 secs - 0.5 secs

Please let us know if any athlete who has qualified for the British Modern Biathlon Championships is unable to compete as this means we may be able to invite another athlete from the rankings list to take part.
