London 2012
The 2012 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXX Olympiad, and also more generally known as London 2012, took place in London, United Kingdom from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The first event, the group stages in women's football, began two days earlier, on 25 July. More than 10,000 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated.
Team GB celebrated their most successful Olympic Games since 1908 after securing 65 medals across the 39 disciplines, meeting their target of winning more medals across more sports than in Beijing. Team GB won 29 Gold, 17 Silver and 19 Bronze medals
