Royal Yachting Association

RYA LogoThe Royal Yachting Association is the national governing body for all forms of recreational and competitive boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sports boats, powerboat racing, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft. The RYA represents the rights of its 100,000 personal members as well as the interests of a further 500,000 boat owners who are members of RYA affiliated clubs and class associations. The RYA, in partnership with the BMF, initiated, established and launched The Green Blue in 2005 as a joint project to recognise the growing importance of sustainable boating and to build on its existing environmental work. The RYA makes an annual financial contribution to The Green Blue as well as value in kind to house and support the team of staff.

British Marine Federation

BMF Logo TransparentThe British Marine Federation is the trade association for the marine leisure industries representing the interests of boat builders, marine equipment manufacturers, marina operators, hire and charter companies and chandleries. Membership runs to over 1500 companies throughout the UK, both inland and coastal locations and BMF represents the interests of member companies to both National Government and in Europe. In 2005 The BMF, in partnership with the RYA, initiated, established and launched The Green Blue. The BMF makes an annual financial contribution to The Green Blue as well as value in kind in a number of areas including hosting The Green Blue website and support with The Green Blue’s profile at National Boat Shows. In 2010, the BMF launched its online events and boating resource http://www.onthewater.co.uk/, aimed at inspiring people to get on the water more regularly by providing them with the information, resources, advice and ideas they need to enjoy sustainable and environmentally-friendly boating.

The Crown Estate

Crown EstateThe Crown Estate owns around half of the foreshore (between mean high and mean low water), approximately half of the beds of estuarial areas and tidal rivers in the UK as well as the seabed out to the 12 nautical mile territorial limit. The Crown Estate’s Marine Stewardship Programme provides support to initiatives that improve the status and management of the marine estate. Within the programme, the Marine Communities Fund focuses on supporting projects that further good management of the marine estate. The Green Blue receives funding from the Marine Communities Fund to deliver its sustainable facilities initiative to marine businesses wanting to improve their environmental performance.

Sailing NetworksSailing Networks

Sailing Networks is an online networking resource for the sailing community and boating industry. It is owned and managed by Boating Networks Ltd, a UK based internet publishing company. Sailing Networks and The Green Blue joined forces in 2007 to create and launch The Green Directory, an online resource for the recreational boating sector to promote, browse and locate green boating products and services. Hosted by Sailing Networks, it offers a range of environmentally friendly alternative products and services for boaters and boating businesses.

 

Sunsail

SunsailSunsail, a subsidiary of TUI Travel plc, is the largest  yacht charter holiday company in the World, operating  nearly 800 yachts across 29 destinations. In 2009, Sunsail won the prestigious Practical Boat Owner Green Award for Service, recognising Sunsail’s commitment to sustainability, particularly for the development of its base in the British Virgin Islands. The Green Blue and Sunsail have been working together since 2008 to support sustainable boating in the UK  with the latest success being the launch of Ecover's cleaning products on Sunsail's UK fleet for 2010. The relationship is a win-win opportunity to promote best environmental practice to Sunsail’s customers, skippers and staff and for The Green Blue to support Sunsail’s commitment to improving the environmental performance of its operation in the UK, specifically its Port Solent based fleet.
