Marketing and PR Tips

Communication

The Marketing, Public Relations and Online departments can help you make your product and brand more visible in the marketplace, whether through the BMF or the National Boat Shows.

With a BMF Marketing team assembled from national and international marketing and media companies and a regular supply of marketing themed training courses, we can assist you and point you in the right direction.

To find out if your company can receive a training grant to help pay for the course visit our Business Support pages.

Top Ten website planning tips

  1. Content is king so whatever you have that other websites don't, then mention it, link to it and sell it as much as possible.
  2. Make sure that your content is as fresh and current as possible.
  3. Don't try and outsmart the search engines with repetition of keywords or descriptions in your metadata etc. It will more likely send you off the rankings rather than up them.
  4. Links to your website are good for search engines to find you and improve your position. Make sure they are from relevant sites.
  5. Give your users an easy and logical customer journey leading to your products but also try to keep the journey short.
  6. Try and make your website as accessible to as many users as possible. Make it easy to read and explain technical terms.
  7. Ensure your web designer is writing standard compliant code that is validated for errors as this will help the search engines trawl and find your site during organic searches with Google etc.
  8. Try and make the URLs of your pages as user friendly and as referential to your subject as possible.
  9. Watch out for basic style mistakes like bad use of fonts or colour clashes with text and background. Poor contrast makes it harder for visitors to read and there is a legal threshold for DDA 1996.
  10. Use good quality images that are relevant to your products. Take your own photographs rather than use stock images. Avoid high resolution images as they take longer to download and can be costly for those who view them on mobile phones.
