Lock SafeSearch
You can keep SafeSearch turned on for anyone who uses your computer by locking SafeSearch. The lock can only be removed by the Google Account that set it.
Lock SafeSearch
- Visit the Search Settings page.
- Make sure SafeSearch is turned on by checking the "Filter explicit results" checkbox.
- Click Lock SafeSearch the right of the "Filter explicit results" checkbox. At this point, you may be prompted to sign in.
- Once you're signed in, click Lock SafeSearch.
- You'll see a confirmation page once the lock is on.
To unlock SafeSearch, follow the same instructions and click Unlock SafeSearch instead of Lock SafeSearch.
Go to the Search settings pageTips about browsers and settings
- If you have more than one browser on your computer, you need to set the lock on each browser on your computer.
- If your computer has more than one user profile, you need to set the lock on each profile.
- The SafeSearch lock only works if your browser is set to allow cookies.
If you deploy a proxy on your web traffic, it may be possible to configure your proxy to append &safe=strict to all search requests sent to Google. This parameter enables strict SafeSearch for all searches, regardless of the setting on the Google Preferences page.
This technique will not work on searches done using SSL Search. Learn more about SSL Search
How to tell if SafeSearch is locked
When the SafeSearch lock is on, you'll see the messsage 'SafeSearch is locked' with colored balls behind it. This helps you tell whether the lock is on or off, even from across the room.
