Rolex NYYC Annual Regatta
Long Island Sound

The contrary New England spring didn't deter yachts from competing in the New York Yacht Club's Annual Regatta presented by Rolex.
Nearly 100 yachts from New York, New England, San Francisco and Europe crossed the starting line for this the 149th edition of this regatta, now a two-day three-race event.

There were eight 12-Meters, four of which Columbia, Intrepid, Courageous and Freedom have won six America's Cups, and 14 of 63 DaimlerChrysler North Atlantic Challenge yachts. This included the noteworthy Zephyrus V, an 86-foot water-ballasted sled from San Francisco.

On Saturday in a light southerly wind complete with rain, one race was sailed. On Sunday, in a light northeasterly breeze, but with a suggestion of sun, two races were completed.

According to preliminary results, Blue Yankee, skippered by Robert C. Towse Jr., won all three races in IMSR Class 1; Talisman, Marko Birch, won IMSR Class 2; Nova, Mark DiStefano, had three firsts to win IMSCR Class 3; Mutiny, skippered by Gibbs Kane Jr., won ACAP Class 4; Crescendo, Martin Jacobson, ACAP Class 5; Arcadia, skippered by Commodore Robert G. Stone Jr., won all three races in NYYCCR Class 6; Riot, Marc Ewing, won the Farr 40 class; Hissar, Edgar Cato, won the 12-Meter Class with three firsts; Pretty Sketchy, Thomas Enright, won the J105 Class; Temptress, Richard Shulman, won IMSCR Class 4 and Cygnette, William Mayer, won all three races in IMSCR Class 5.
