Games of the Small States of Europe
St. Paul's Bay

Racing started proper on St. Paul's Bay yesterday in the sailing discipline of the Games of the Small States of Europe following a good practice race on the first day on Monday.
The three classes - Laser Radial, Laser Standard and Optimist - all have a significant number of Maltese youngsters taking part.

Andrea ORLANDO of Monaco leads the standings in the Laser Radial Class with two first place finishes yesterday, while in second place was Coosgrove ANGELOS of Cyprus who finished third in the first race and second in the second race.

Benji BORG was a joint leader in the Optimist class after the opening two races yesterday.

He was enjoying the lead with Monaco's Matthieu MARIANI. Both had accumulated just three points. Borg was first in the first race and second in the second race. Mariani reversed the position with a second and first placing respectively in the two races.

In this event, Malta had five other sailors taking part.
Karl Cremona and Matthew Fleri Soler were joint third with eight penalty points, Simon Psaila was fifth with nine, Sean Borg sixth (11) and Christopher Podesta seventh (16).
In the Laser Standard class, there are six locals participating.

Mario Aquilina was in joint second place with Monaco's Damien Desprat with five penalty points, one more than current leader Hafsteinn A. Geirsson of Iceland with four.
Adrian Gauci BORDA was sixth with 13 and he was followed by Neil BORG on 15. James Xuereb and John Tabone were joint eighth on 16
