Job Title: School Sport Development Manager
Pay Scale: Up to £32,000 pa (depending on experience)
Hours/Weeks:
37 hours per week x 52 weeks including some evenings and weekends.
Up to 3 year contract subject to annual funding
Responsible To: Principal/Curriculum Director PE

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the management and strategic development of the Melton School Sport And Physical Activity Network (SSPAN).
Major Objectives:
Manage the Development of the Melton School Sport and Physical Activity Network
• To provide strategic direction and operational support for the work of the Melton & Belvoir School Sport & Physical Activity Network (SSPAN)
• To produce, develop and implement a performance management process for the SSPAN, including a development plan to draw down the School Games Organiser (SGO) funding and develop the sport and physical activity offer for schools across Melton
• To deliver the School Games initiative on behalf of Melton by taking on the role of the SGO
• To deliver a shared vision for Children & Young People as set out in Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport & Physical Activity Strategy
• To plan, manage and support PE, sport and physical activity programmes, in partnership, under one Melton plan as part of the strategic commissioning process.
• To develop and sustain a steering group of senior leaders to champion, direct and support PE, school sport and physical activity for ALL children and young people in Melton.
• Establish new and maintain current partnership with key partners such as Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport, Sport England, Youth Sport Trust, AfPE, the Local Authority, National Governing Bodies of Sport and the community and professional sports clubs and organisations, embracing opportunities offered which will positively impact on the quality of teaching and learning, participation in school sport and health.
• To manage the SSPAN budgets and apply for further funding in order to build and maintain the SSPAN infrastructure
• Support and develop a robust evidence base/measurement tool to underpin future reporting
• Submit progress reports to Youth Sport Trust (YST) against School Games Organiser (SGO) targets and to Local Commissioning
• Establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships and communicate effectively with school staff and partners
• To disseminate good practice and keep abreast of National opportunities in order to influence local policy
• To support schools by removing the barriers for participation and offer support in order for them to deliver high quality PE, school sport and physical activity and ensure that the needs of ALL young people are considered in all that is done
• To work with other SSPAN partners across the sub-region to realise efficiencies and to identify appropriate collaborative projects that lead to more effective delivery e.g. School Games, School Sport Associations, GO Gold Programme promotion and talented athlete pathways.
• To broker national opportunities for the benefit of local children and young people e.g. ensuring that schools in Melton gain the maximum possible sustainable advantage from programmes such as PE and School Sport Premium.
• To provide guidance and support to partners on the planning and the implementation of a comprehensive PE, sport and physical activity programmes/initiatives within their communities.
Drive Participation and Develop Competitive Opportunities in School Sport:
• Produce, promote and ensure the delivery of a structured and progressive School Games competitions calendar which meets the needs of all young people across the Melton SSPAN and reflects National Governing Body competition frameworks and feeds into the L3 events organised by Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport
• Increase the number of schools participating in the School Games at Level 1 and 2 and ensure representation from the Melton SSPAN at Level 3 events
• Working closely with the Project Ability School, provide inclusive and targeted opportunities for young disabled people to access competition through the School Games and a volunteer pathway
• Lead the implementation of a cultural component at Levels 1 - 3 of the School Games
• Promote ways in which the School Games and competitive sport can contribute to school priorities and support the aspirations and achievements of young people in local schools
• Support schools to attain School Games School Games Mark at Bronze, Silver or Gold level
• Utilise appropriate vehicles of communication to promote participation and competitive opportunities
Increase Regular Participation in Club Sport
• Sustain young peoples' commitment to an active lifestyle by ensuring all School Games activity at level 1 and level 2 links to a wide range of school based clubs and community club sport opportunities
• Sustain, develop and grow the network of Change 4 Life clubs in both primary and secondary schools
• Ensure the progression of young people from Change 4 Life into the School Games at Levels 1 and 2 and community clubs
Broaden Participation Opportunities through Volunteering and Workforce roles
• Develop the workforce required to activate the School Games at all levels locally; teachers, non-teaching staff, parents, volunteers, young leaders (including young coaches, young officials and young team managers)
• Understand the training needs and working in partnership organise a programme of continuous professional development to up skill school staff and volunteers working within a school environment To improve the quality of PE, school sport and physical activity and teaching in schools
• Manage a fully inclusive Leadership Academy and provide access to training opportunities by working with National Governing Bodies and facilitating deployment opportunities with schools within the SSPAN
• Support schools in setting up School Sport Organising Committees and Primary Crew's
• Provide access to specialist coaches, training and equipment to assist schools (particularly primary/special schools) in delivering a range of lunchtime and after school programmes
• Work in partnership with local secondary schools and primary schools to promote opportunities and deploy young leaders to competitions and events
• In conjunction with the line manager, take responsibility for personal professional development to meet identified training needs, taking advantage of relevant training and development available
SPECIAL FACTORS:
Subject to the duration of the need, the special conditions given below apply:
(a) The nature of the work may involve the postholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours.
(b) The postholder will be required to attend, from time to time, training courses, conferences, seminars or other meetings as required by his/her own training and development needs and the needs of the service.
(c) Expenses will be paid in accordance with the Local Conditions of Service.
(d) This post is subject to a check being carried out at an Enhanced level by the Disclosure and Barring Service regarding any previous criminal record.
(e) It is expected that all holidays and appointments etc will be scheduled outside of working hours or during school holiday periods in order to meet the needs and functionality of the academy and to prevent unnecessary pressure on colleagues and other members of staff.
(f) Subject to review, the post may attract a casual car user allowance.

Whilst the main place of work is Long Field Academy, Ambleside Way, the postholder may be directed to work at any other site, within reasonable travelling distance, as directed by the employer, should the need arise. All staff are expected to work flexibly as part of a team, commonly bound in the service of the needs and the further development of the students as reasonably required, under the direction of their line manager and the Principal.
