Young Powerboaters head to Regional Final
Young powerboaters from across the Eastern Region will hit the water for the regional final of the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship at Island Yacht Club, Canvey Island, on 19 July 2014.
The Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship is a National Championship open to
RYA clubs, organisations and training centres where 8 - 16 year old (RIB)
drivers can demonstrate their skills with the goal of winning their club a
brand new Highfield 460 or a Honwave T40.
The event will see 21 finalists from four regional heats do battle, with
the winners in two age groups, 8-12 and 13-16, going through to the national
final held at the PSP Southampton Boat Show in September. There they will be up
against against other regional finalists from across the UK.
Nigel Mower, the Easter Region event co-ordinator, says: “The
Championship lets youngsters aged 8-16 demonstrate their skills as expert boat
handlers and improve their skills in a safe, controlled environment, with each
competitor aiming to manoeuvre around a pre-set course in the quickest time.”
Stephen Morris, Head of Power Equipment for Honda (UK) comments:
“We are delighted to continue our long and successful partnership with
the RYA in supporting the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship, and to be bringing
on board our new boatbuilder partner, Highfield, for the 2014 competition. Both
Honda and Highfield are only too pleased to support the RYA in its efforts to
inspire and encourage young people to develop their skills and to promote safe
and responsible boating through this unique championship.”
Thanks to Championship sponsors Honda and Highfield.
