The Intensive Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) exists to ensure the highest quality of sport science, medicine and therapy support to Team GB in preparation for, and at, all International Olympic Committee (IOC) accredited events, including the summer and winter Olympic Games. In order to achieve this, it’s committed to working closely with the National Governing Bodies (NGB's) and the Home Country Sports Institutes (HCSI's) to offer bespoke rehabilitation solutions for injured athletes.

The IRU is jointly funded by the British Olympic Association and UK Sport and is run in partnership with the English Institute of Sport at the High Performance Centre, Bisham Abbey. The service is available to any Olympic athlete nominated for the BOA passport scheme by their sport, as well as UK World-Class funded athletes and Paralympic athletes from both summer and winter sports, across all the home nations

This multi-disciplinary residential service aims to provide timely, intensive rehabilitation to compliment and add value to an athlete's recovery from surgery and/or injury. Clinical referrals can be received directly from NGB or HCSI support staff (Physio/Doctor).
