How to Affiliate to the RYA
New Affiliations
Any club can affiliate to the RYA so long as they have sailing or boating as one of their primary objectives and are properly constituted as a democratic club/association. We also recommend that a club have a minimum of 30 members before affiliating for a number of practical and financial reasons, although this isn’t a hard and fast rule. Organisations that don’t fit the traditional club model do have the option of Restricted Affiliation. Please see below for details.
If you are involved in running a club that wishes to affiliate to the RYA, please complete the forms available from the Downloads section (on the right) and return them to the RYA’s Member Services team. If you have any queries about the process, please write to the Member Services team at member.services@rya.org.uk
The annual costs of affiliating to the RYA are explained here
Existing Affiliates
If your organisation is already affiliated to the RYA, you will receive notification of your renewal each December along with an invoice depending on your charging method. This is also the time to check all the details that we hold on your club, and update any that have changed or are missing. You can also notify us of changes to your details at any time by e-mailing member.services@rya.org.uk.
Club fees are reviewed regularly and any increases in the rates are notified on this website and in our e-newsletter Club Room.
Restricted Affiliation
Organisations that wish to affiliate but don’t conform to the requirements stated above may apply to be granted Restricted Affiliation. An example of such a club might be a corporate sailing company running racing for their clients. The costs are generally higher than normal club affiliation, and certain benefits of affiliation are restricted. For further details please contact our Member Services team on member.services@rya.org.uk
