Until April 2013, Ian was Chief Executive Officer and a director of Balfour Beatty plc. During his 17 years with the company, the last eight as Chief Executive, it experienced significant growth, extended its global reach and its capabilities, particularly in developing professional services following the 2009 acquisition of Parsons Brinckerhoff.
Ian is a chartered accountant and over his career he has gained considerable experience in international business, particularly in the United States. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty, as Finance Director in 1996, Ian was financial comptroller of Hanson and finance director of ARC Ltd, one of its principal subsidiaries.
Ian is a non-executive director of Cable & Wireless Communications plc, non-executive chairman at Al Noor Hospitals Group plc, non-executive director at Cairn Energy plc and formerly he served as a non-executive director of VT Group plc. He also serves as president of Construction Industry Relief, Assistance and Support for the Homeless Ltd, the construction and property industry charity for the homeless.
