Your support has never been more important at this crucial time for Paralympic sport. Sophie Christiansen, just one of our gold medallists pictured above, said:
"I am proud to say that I am a British Paralympian and compete for, in my opinion, the best country in the world for helping disabled athletes"
In order to help athletes like Sophie fulfil their potential at the Paralympic Games, it is our responsibility to give them the best possible chance of achieving their goals. To do this we need your help.
What was achieved in London was nothing short of phenomenal; packed stadia, the nation glued to their TV sets, and British Paralympians on the front pages of the national press every day. That's without mentioning the 120 medals that ParalympicsGB won across 13 sports – more medals across more sports than ever before and an average of more than ten every day. An incredible performance of which we are immensely proud.
For the first time, our athletes were recognised for the truly elite sportsmen and women that they are. Just as importantly, the Paralympics made a lot of people rethink their views on what disabled people are capable of, including many children and young people. The positive impact of this won't be known for years, but we are confident it will be significant.
London 2012 may have been and gone, but in so many ways the journey is just beginning for Paralympic sport. Maximising the momentum from London is our focus now, to Sochi and Rio of course but also to ensure that we make the most of the unique opportunity that London has created to get more disabled people involved in sport at all levels.
How you can support the BPA
As a registered charity we rely heavily on the support of fundraising to achieve our charitable objectives and to help ensure that British disabled athletes have the best possible preparations ahead of the Paralympic Games. There are many organised events and challenges that you can take part in to help us. Alternatively, why not organise your own fundraising event?
Please note that the BPA do not appoint fundraisers to partake in street fundraising or house-to-house collections on our behalf (apart from where individuals are holding one-off collections in aid of the BPA with permission from the local authority). If you experience any issues with people on the street asking for money on behalf of the BPA or to support Paralympians please contact us on fundraising@paralympics.org.uk.
