The ISAF Training Scholarship is designed to develop the skills of practicing Coaches or those individuals already working in the capacity of either National Training Programme manager / coordinator needed to develop and manage an effective ad sustainable National Sail Training Programme. Practical skills personal ability as well as the unique challenges in delivery of sailing disciplines including, but not limited to Kiteboarding, windsurfing, dinghy, multihull as well as yachting are all part of the course as well as practical skills of Power / Coach Boat handling will be developed. The candidates also work on management and assessment skills required to maintain such a programme within the unique sailing 'landscape' of their home nations.

The IOC Olympic Solidarity (OS) Department may support funding for applications from MNA candidates through it's Sport-Specific Training Option, which forms part of the OS World Programme for Coaches. Those nations wishing to apply for IOC OS funding must first contact their National Olympic Committee (NOC) to request the appropriate application forms and then work with ISAF to complete the process.

The Scholarship course can also be funded whole or in part through private funding sources or in conjunction with existing MNA funding / Sponsorship.

Success stories from previous Training Scholarship courses include those below:

Joe Chan from Singapore completed the course in 2013. He has since helped Singapore Sailing apply for ISAF Recognized Training for its National Training Programme and hosted 2 ISAF Coach Education Courses, funded by the International Olympic Committee.	Anna Kristofersdottir from Iceland took part in the Training Scholarship in 2012 and has since helped establish a National Youth and Adult Training Programme in Iceland, with the result of dramatically increasing participation in sailing activity. Anna is currently helping her National Federation prepare and application to ISAF for international accreditation of this National Programme.
Emrah Surmen from Turkey is a graduate of the 2012 course and since graduating the programme has not only helped the Turkish Sailing Federation design, implement and launch a new Youth and Adult Sail Training Syllabus for Dinghy, Windsurf and Yachting but he has also been appointed as a Regional Development Co-ordinator by ISAF for the Euro-Asia region and joined the ISAF Development and Youth Committee.	South African Scholarship holder Rob Holden was the first graduate of the programme back in early 2010. He has since been appointed as both the National Training and National High Performance Manager for South African Sailing and developed the South African national syllabus for sailors and coaches. Most recently Rob has led the development of the sport in Sub-Saharan Africa through the 'Sail Africa' project and as a consequence of this he has been appointed as a Regional Development Co-ordinator for Africa.
Graham Numa (centre) from Papua New Guinea returned home after participating in the Scholarship in 2012 as the National Training Manager and Head Coach of his nation. He is currently preparing national sailors for their first ever participation in the ISAF Sailing World Championships and developing national programme structures in readiness for Papua New Guinea hosting the Pacific Games.	Rauqeuqe Salueti Dimanaleba from Fiji, otherwise known to us as 'Lewa' returned to her native Fiji to carry out a newly created role as Training Manager for the National Sailing Federation. She has since helped Fiji host 2 ISAF Coach Education courses for her National 'Participation' related coaches and is working on hosting a third programme that will develop Senior Coaches in charge of sailing clubs in the many islands that make up Fiji. Alongside this, Lewa is working hard on behalf of the Fiji Yachting Association to finalise a National Syllabus for Sailors and Coaches, which is hoped to be accredited by ISAF in the very near future.
