The Extreme 40s excel in all weather conditions and can reach speeds in excess of 35 knots (40mph/60kmh) and even 'fly a hull' in as little as 8 knots of breeze. Lights winds have been predicted for the event, yet this news has done little to dampen the spirits of event Race Manger Alan HILLMAN. 'We are expecting light winds over the next few days but the Extreme 40s are unique in that they are still able to race in light conditions and today we've seen a good number of flying hulls from the teams who have been out training. The weather is very localized here on Lake Starnberg and so far we have seen the wind build through the afternoon and if this trend continues we'll certainly have some competitive scoring races in the afternoon.'
Jonathon FARRAR (USA), tactician on Tommy Hilifiger, will make his return to the Extreme 40 sailing circuit after the team clenched the class title last season. 'It's just great to be back racing the Extreme 40s and to take part in this competitive circuit with a good group of sailors. This will be a really exciting first event and we're looking forward to going racing. Basilica will set the pace at this event, but we won't be far behind.'
Jennifer GRANCIO, Head of Distribution, Europe iShares explained, 'Germany is a key market for iShares and it is fitting that the first leg of this exciting series is being held on Lake Starnberg. Sailing continually pushes the boundaries of technology and innovation and we are delighted to be supporting a sport whose characteristics mirror our approach to investing.'
