ISAF Members receive award at Mid-Year Council meeting

World "Women and Sport" Trophy nominees awarded by IOC President

The ISAF Council meetings started with a celebration on Saturday morning. Fresh from receiving the ISAF Beppe Croce Trophy the night before, IOC President, Jacques ROGGE was delighted to present diplomas to two ISAF members, nominated for the World "Women and Sport" Trophy.

Fiona KIDD (CAN), Adrienne GREENWOOD (NZL) and Cathy FOSTER (GBR) were all nominated for the IOC Women and Sport Trophy in 2007. In recognition of this, all have received diplomas. Fiona KIDD and Adrienne GREENWOOD were at the ISAF Mid Year meetings, so were able to be awarded by Göran PETERSSON, ISAF President and by the IOC President himself, who made a surprise visit to Council.

Since 2000, the IOC Women and Sport Commission has annually recognized a person, organization or institution for their remarkable contribution to the promotion of women in the world of sport. In 2007 there were 65 applications from NOCs and International Olympic Sports Federations from all over the world.

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
