Danish Byte Cll class sailor Celine Carlsen is preparing to juggle twin ambitions to fulfil her Olympic dream.
She is determined to compete at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, but her long-term goal is to become a medical doctor.

"There is a programme called 'Doctors Without Borders' that really appeals to me," she said.

The scheme provides medical expertise in areas of the world affected by disasters or conflict.

"I love to travel and we have a really good system in Denmark where I can put off the exams to fit in with my sailing."

"It is my dream to go to the Olympic Games. I do not think that London 2012 is realistic, but I would like to get there for 2016 in Rio."

As an eight-year-old, she was introduced to sailing in optimist-class dinghies by a family friend and has never looked back.

Carlsen attends a specialist sports school, the Hojskole Sport and Performance, in Oure, Denmark.

She has gained experience sailing bytes over the past year under the careful eye of coach Annett Petersen (DEN).

"I've reached the level where she cannot really teach me too much about technique, but she is like a second head in the boat for me".

"She is not there so much as a trainer, more as a coach and she helps me mentally. We are really close".

"To succeed in sailing, you do not just have to be good at one thing. It is not only
condition, but you have to be good at many things, like tactics and strategy".

"That is what appealed to me."
