In a new initiative recognizing the contribution to the sport made by Sailing Instructors, the RYA will be honouring instructors in six categories.
Awards will be presented to Assistant Instructor of the Year; Instructors of the Year (2 awards); Senior Instructor of the Year; Advanced Instructor of the Year; and Coach/Assessor of the Year.
The RYA is looking for nominations from centres, clubs and regions to find the most committed and best instructors. For each nomination the RYA is looking for evidence in one or more of the following areas:
Effective instructing; energetic commitment during a number of RYA courses during the year; the ability to earn the respect of the sailors being taught; and the ability to inspire the students
Nominees must hold a valid RYA Instructor qualification.
Entries for the award must be received by 1 October 2004.
The awards will be presented at the RYA Dinghy Sailing Show at Alexandra Palace on 5 March 2005.
Successful applications will also be put forward for Sport England Coach of the Year. There are also RYA Coach of the Year Awards for those involved in race coaching. If you would like to find out more, please contact the RYA Racing department.
