Heat 6 was sailed in cool 15 to 20 knot southerly breezes with lumpy seas. After one aborted start, as the breeze shifted a little east, the heat got under way cleanly without the OCSs that have been prevalent recently. David Graney, Martin Graney and Murray Jones in Kirribilli II (AUS166) tacked on to Port early after the Start and went right and gained. They then covered the fleet and maintained their lead for the rest of the heat.

Some places were exchanged between the top six boats during the second windward work. Karabos VIII (AUS 180 - Nick Rogers, Leigh Behrens and Peter Lilley) moved up from fifth at the first leeward mark to round in second position, and went on to hold this position for the heat. Imagination (AUS179 - Ian Macdiamid, David Baines and John Wilson) steadily worked their way up the field to find their way to third place by the third rounding of the windward mark and held their place until the finish.

Chrisco (GER982 - Deiter Shoen, Vincent Hoesch and Andreas Huber) didn't have her own way today as she was displaced from the top six at the end of the first leeward run. However, she was able to fight her way back into fourth place at the beginning of last lap and held it to the finish. Others to finish in the top six were Justin Barr's Sassafras (AUS 188 - with Rob Armstrong and Glen Stewart) with fifth and Fredrick, Theiss Palm and Kasper Harsberg on Nanoq (DEN336) in sixth place.

The overall standings still have Chrisco in the lead (8 points with one drop), who would have to have a disastrous race tomorrow to fail to win the Championship. The next two places are held by the local Tasmanian boats, Kirribilli II and Karabos VIII, separated only by 7.6 points - the race for the minor placings is on in earnest.
