2003 Soling European Championship
Torbole, Lake Garda

After a very cloudy morning the race got under way in a light Ora and again the right side of the course was much better. Usually you have to go left in the starting winds but what is usual in these days?
Balazs (HUN) lead the fleet and Haist (GER), Schneeberger (AUT) and nearly the whole Austrian fleet following. Koch (GER) and Wossala (HUN) came from the left side and were packed about 15 in the fleet.

Balazs extended his lead and the others had a kind of small war, because seven boats were very close together! The wind increased a little bit and after three sausages Balazs got the bullet in front of Schneeberger and Haist. Koch made his way through the fleet to fifth and Wossala seventh.

After a short delay race five was started in the best wind of the week: about 4-5 bft and again the right side was better. Koch, Cunho (BRA) and Balazs went slowly away from the fleet, followed by Haist, Schneeberger and the other Austrians. Wossala was packed between. The wind was getting a bit stronger. Koch and Balazs extended their lead with impressive speed and boathandling and so Koch got the shot 200 meters in front of Balazs, again 200 metres in front of Cunho and Schneeberger. Haist and Wossala following next places.

Balazs holds the overall lead with Haist, after very good light wind results, in second and Koch in third position.

The final two races are scheduled to be sailed today (Thursday).
