New backer for British global circumnavigation record

Priddy, one step closer to record attempt

After many a false dawn Alan Priddy, the main man behind the British attempt to set a new record for circumnavigating the globe moved one step closer, when he announced that after a long period of negotiations he was pleased to say that he and his team have concluded matters and now have a new backer.

Their attempt will be to complete the fastest ever circumnavigation of the globe using a fully British designed, manufactured and campaigned ‘Super Boat’. It will be the fastest and most fuel efficient powerboat to circumnavigate the globe for the much coveted UIM World Record, currently held by New Zealand in a time of 60 days 23 hours 49 minutes.

“The good news is the build of the boat can start very soon” said the Portsmouth based Alan Priddy, who is the world’s leader in offshore expeditions and is the current holder of 37 World Records. “I can now prepare a diary of events building up to the naming day. On the down side we are going to miss the March cut-off date for the weather window, which means our start date will be pushed back to November 2nd 2015. I’m sorry but there is nothing I can do about this.”

The Circumnavigation team wants to share this voyage with as many people as possible to create a community that can experience what they experience as they travel around the world chasing the new record.   To this end they are going to cover the 7m x 4m roof of the wheelhouse with photos of the individuals and companies who would like to join them in this adventure. “We will then take you, albeit in a virtual sense, on the voyage with us. This is particularly ideal if you suffer from sea sickness” said Priddy.

The name of the new ‘Backer’ is still a heavy guarded secret with a soft announcement being made on September 4th. The big announcement will be made sometime in October in the City of London at a location yet to be decided.

“When the time is right and I am in a position to say who the ‘Backer’ is, then we can shout about it from the rooftops. One thing this has taught me is never give up.”
