Berth holders take part in Port of Plymouth Regatta

A chance for non-racing berth holders to take part in a regatta

An event sponsored by RYA Active Marina provided the opportunity for recreational boat owners to take part in the Port of Plymouth Regatta. The White Sail event, in hot sun and light winds, involved 31 sailors in 9 boats from Mayflower Marina, Sutton Harbour, Plymouth Yacht Haven and Queen Anne’s Battery and took place on Saturday 26 July.

The participants had a 60 minute starting gate for the course, which commenced at the Royal Western Yacht Club from where they sailed anti-clockwise around the Sound, keeping all the navigation marks to port. Course times were recorded and finishing positions calculated – it took between one-and-a-half and two hours to complete the race.

Mark Brimacombe, Sutton Harbour Marina Manager, said: “The White Sail Challenge is a great asset to Plymouth Regatta - and it has encouraged a few our berth holders to take part in the event.”

Nick Head, Port of Plymouth Sailing Association President, added: “It was a light wind day but perfect for a gentle cruise around Plymouth Sound. All participants commented how nice it was to have the opportunity to sail in the regatta.”
