Final Chance For Free Sailing At Shustoke This Summer

Warks club also welcoming youngsters from Chernobyl Children's Project to sail

You and your family have one more chance to try sailing for FREE at Shustoke SC this summer as the club hosts its third and final Open Day of 2014 on Saturday 2 August.

The fun starts at 11am near Coleshill and is guaranteed to offer something for everyone, regardless of age, gender, experience or ability.

Get a first taste of sailing with one of the club’s experienced members, enjoy getting to grips with one of the club’s own boats (weather permitting) or simply sample the social side of what life at Shustoke SC offers.

As part of the club’s enduring relationship with the Chernobyl Children's Project (UK) Solihull group, Shustoke will also once again be welcoming a group of youngsters from the Belarus city devastated by the nuclear disaster in 1986 to take part in the Open Day fun.

As part of the charity’s mission to bring children from Belarus to Britain for recuperative holidays, Shustoke has provided a day’s sailing for the children over a number of years.

Peter Maidment, Shustoke SC Commodore, said: "These are children, all largely in remission from cancer, who live in the shadow of the Chernobyl power station.

"The charity provides them with an opportunity to spend some time in clean, non-contaminated air, coupled with some stimulating experiences, which has proved to be very beneficial for them.

"They take part in a whole range of activities, including sailing, to make a real holiday of it. The sailing days have always been a great success and we are delighted to be able to help out again this year."

Refreshments will be available and a warm welcome is guaranteed as Shustoke SC aims to give newcomers a real sense of the club and what sailing is really all about. All you need for the Open Day is a change of clothes, soft soled shoes and a towel and the club will provide what else you need.

Shustoke SC is a recognised RYA Training Centre, meaning it conforms to the highest standards of quality and safety. Meanwhile, it’s not to late to learn to sail this year.

Shustoke SC has two more RYA Start Sailing courses running in August and September/October.

RYA Start Sailing introduces people to the basics, giving them the best first experience in the sport, while also providing opportunities for them to then stay involved and keep improving their skills at this welcoming, inclusive sailing club.
