Calling owners of RYA Coded vessels - Free webinar on Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 

Gain a better understanding of owner obligations under the MLC

On Tuesday 18 March at 18.00 the RYA will be holding a free to view webinar to assist owners and operators of RYA coded vessels gain a better understanding of owner obligations under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).  

“The MLC was ratified by Government in August 2013 bringing together new and old regulations with regards to working conditions and rights for seafarers”, explained Bas Edmonds, RYA Technical & Racing Services Manager and host of the free webinar.   

“Many owners/operators don’t fully understand the implications of the MLC and we hope that by offering this free webinar we can help clarify what is required of commercial operators who fall under the scope of the MLC”, Bas continued.  

The webinar will cover a host of topics including: What is a ‘Ship’ under the scope of the MLC? What or who is a seafarer? Will introduce documents all owners and operators need to know about Outline the RYA’s unique approach to the MLC.  

The webinar is being hosted exclusively for owners/operators of RYA coded vessels less than 24m and 200gt, certified through the RYA for commercial operation.  

There are 100 places available for the webinar and booking are taken on a first come, first served basis, so early registration is advised. You will need to provide your vessel name and ID number when you register.

"The MLC has a wide number of implications for the owners of commercial vessels operating within its scope and we would encourage any owner to attend this webinar in order to better understand the MLC and how they can prepare their business to accept it.  We anticipate running further webinars for RYA and non-RYA coded vessel owners/operators later in the year”, Bas concluded.
