New – RYA Advanced pilotage course

New motor cruising course provides the perfect step up from Day Skipper.

If, after a season’s motor cruising, you feel ripe for next step beyond Day Skipper but feel that that the Coastal Skipper may be just out of your reach then the new RYA Advanced Pilotage course is what you are looking for.

The course will provide you with more advanced passage planning, pilotage and passage making skills with practical experience of using radar and navigating at night. With the nights beginning to draw in, now is an ideal time to book this course.

“We have been running the course as a pilot this year and have received a lot of positive feedback. What we hope is that this course will provide a valuable alternative for those who consider the Coastal Skipper course too advanced for what they require, or as a great stepping stone to progress to Coastal Skipper.” comments Rachel Andrews, RYA Chief Powerboat Instructor and Examiner

“The course is also great for recent converts from sail to power who wish to sharpen up their skills in navigating and piloting at higher speeds than they may be used to."

The feedback so far…

Martyn Sharp - “I see this [course] as a progression after a Day Skipper course allowing a candidate to improve on their knowledge prior to undertaking a Yachtmaster Coastal Offshore course. It would also be suitable for day skippers to take if they did not wish to progress further up the ladder.”

Norman Starr - “Good communication and course content plus teaching”.

Keith Brown - “Consolidation of previous knowledge – always good to revise. In particular, advancing delegation and skippering skills. Made lots of mistakes but that’s how you get better!”

Alan Jones - “Good balance between classroom and on the boat”.

The course is run over two days and one evening to allow for night cruising. Pre course knowledge required is boat handling to the standard of Day Skipper together with theory knowledge to the standard of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster™ Offshore shorebased course, as well VHF/SRC certificate and first aid.
