Update (1:50p): We’re now in recovery and assessing the underlying cause of this outage.
Users will see some badly formatted pages for the next several minutes as we fix a problem with our static assets.
Some users are running into trouble using third-party clients that rely on OAuth. We’re aware of this issue and working to resolve it.
Some Firefox users are reporting trouble updating on twitter.com with Firefox. If this is happening to you, try clearing the twitter.com cookies stored by your brower.

We’re performing some system maintenance and have chosen not to go offline as we make these changes. As a result, you may see increased errors or slowness while the changes are made. This condition should resolve quickly.

We are suspending a number of accounts that have been affected by malware. We are sending instructions to the owners of these compromised accounts so that they may regain access. If you have been suspended, please check your mail for information on how to restore access.
Twitter’s help pages will be briefly unavailable during our provider’s planned downtime for database maintenance. For two hours starting at 12:45a Pacific on Sunday, you’ll be unable to make changes to account settings or access help pages. Though web pages will be inaccessible, all email will be routed as usual.

Some users are unable to update on the web using Firefox 3.5. Other actions like following and sending DMs are also affected.

Due to defensive measures we’ve taken against the ongoing denial-of-service attack, some Twitter clients are unable to communicate with our API, and many users are unable to tweet via SMS.
We are working as quickly as possible to restore our full service.
