We’ve pushed out fixes that address the problem of self-following and image uploading.
We’re also working on the follower inconsistency problem. To recap: some users are seeing follower and following data that is a couple days old. It does not reflect recent changes. That means you might follow someone and then come back a little while later and see that the change didn’t take.
While this is obviously concerning, there is good news. First, we haven’t lost any data. We’ll be putting the data from the past several days back into place just as quickly as we can. Second, we’re working on getting the additions (new follower, new followings) back in before any other changes. After that’s done, we’ll clean up the rest.
We’ll share more information as we resolve this problem.
Update: The users affected by this bug are those who have made changes to followers or followings in the last 3 days. Within the next 24 hours, we expect to put back in any followers or followings that are now missing. There will be some additional cleanup required once that is complete to remove any followers or followings that should not be present. That work will start tomorrow once the first phase of the cleanup is complete and will end in the early part of next week.
