The group managed to complete four races before the light morning easterly died completely, forcing the sailors back to shore at Fremantle Sailing Club.

With Sunday being the 12th day of the inaugural camp, the ENP athletes were put to the test on the waters of the Indian Ocean today, putting the lessons learned under ENP Coaches Arthur BRETT and Belinda STOWELL into practice in a racing environment.

"We wanted to introduce genuine race pressure to see how confident the athletes were to implement what they have learned in training into a realistic environment," BRETT said.

"You can train as much as you like but it ultimately means nothing unless you take what you know out on to the race course with you and execute it effectively.

"We got the athletes to focus on start line positioning, hiking technique and posture, fluid movements through tacks and jibes and reading the wind and ocean conditions to give them the best opportunity to reach, and maintain, maximum speed."

Race honours were shared across the board in the Laser class, with Ecuador's Gabriel MORAN, Cook Islands' Peter HENRY and Moldova's Alexandr DENISIUC each claiming a race victory. Perth 2011 Board member Peter GILMOUR's son, David GILMOUR, also mustered a victory sailing an unfamiliar Laser.

Latvia's Anna AILE was the most consistent in the Laser Radial racing, while Chinese Taipei's Hao CHANG held sway in the RS:X class.

With today's racing culminating the on water components of the inaugural Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships Emerging Nations Programme camp, BRETT said he and STOWELL were thrilled with the development of the ENP athletes across the duration of the first of seven ENP camps.

"It has been awesome to watch," he said.

"This group has had so much new information thrown at them and they have all soaked it up without hesitation. Their job now is to go back to their home countries and continue to practice what they have learned so it stays fresh in their minds.

"Their commitment to their own improvement has been fantastic and I have no doubt the commitment they showed while in Perth will carry over into their training back home."

The afternoon concluded with final athlete reviews with BRETT and STOWELL ahead of several athletes departing Western Australia on early flights ahead of the official camp conclusion tomorrow.

"Our responsibilities to these athletes will not end now that the camp is over," STOWELL said.

"We have invested a substantial amount of time into developing these athletes so Arthur and I will continue to be available to them, whether it be on the phone or email, to help them reach a higher level."

About The Emerging Nations Programme

The inaugural ENP camp, which is being held at Fremantle Sailing Club, is the first of seven ENP intensive training camps to be held in WA between July 2009 and the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships in December 2011.

The ENP is designed to encourage and assist developing and emerging sailing nations to participate in the Olympic Sailing Competition, increase the number of participating ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs) and subsequently the number of competitors at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. From this World Championship, it is hoped 'emerging' talent identified during the ENP will qualify to represent their country in sailing at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Acclaimed Australian Olympic sailing coach Arthur BRETT and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games gold medallist in the women's 470 class Belinda STOWELL are guiding the Laser, Laser Radial and RS:X athletes, sharing the knowledge and skill that has seen the pair help spearhead modern Australian Olympic sailing success.

Over the course of the seven ENP intensive training camps, up to 40 athletes from as many nations (not represented in any sailing discipline at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games), will be invited to Perth to improve their chances of earning a place in the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships through their involvement with the ENP.
