Job Description
UK Sport is leading the drive to create British champions, in our role as the nation’s high performance sports agency responsible for investing in our brightest medal hopes. UK Sport’s investment played a pivotal role in delivering the amazing success achieved by British athletes at the London Olympic and Paralympics Games. Our targets for Rio are even more ambitious.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced Governance Manager on a permanent basis who, whilst reporting to the Head of Governance, will be responsible for the following:
- Promoting the principles of good governance practice within organisations that receive UK Sport funding, providing advice and guidance on areas of best practice to raise standards of corporate and behavioural governance in the high performance sport sector
- Building strategic working relationships with Chairs, CEO’s and other staff members in sport governing bodies to influence continuous improvement in corporate structures and processes
- Monitoring compliance with UK Sport’s governance Required Standards ensuring Key Performance Indicators and Funding Trigger criteria are monitored and evaluated
- Overseeing the funded body onsite audit programme, agreeing audit scope and working with funded organisations to ensure management responses are implemented
- Managing, or participating in, projects with our funded partners to facilitate effective governance solutions to issues/opportunities identified through either the onsite audit process or other activities
- Supporting the effective development and monitoring of UK Sport’s grant award investment in sporting bodies or partners, in line with agreed UK Sport investment principles and strategy
We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
- Educated to degree level, or relevant professional / higher education qualification is desirable
- Extensive corporate governance experience
- Experience of providing strategic support and guidance to Boards, Chairs, CEOs.
- Extensive experience of monitoring and compliance issues
- Experience of developing and monitoring risk management systems and processes
- An understanding of governance best practice and challenges in the not-for-profit sector
- Highly IT literate with the ability to understand electronic databases
- Experience in working in the sporting, public, voluntary or charitable sector is desirable
- Understanding of the principles of project management is desirable
