Bacardi International Race Week

Martin Vezina, Ali Meller, and Mark Cloutier celebrated May Day Thursday with wins in the Lasers, 505's and J-105's wrapping up their part of Bacardi Invitational Race week.
It was the week's best day on the Great Sound with brilliant sunshine and 10 shifty knots of breeze. It was the first trapeze day for the 505's and they liked it.

In other keelboat action Craig Davis won two more races in the IOD's and has a lock on all the prizes except the "B" series and he has three bullets in that. Etchells ace (and Star world champ) Peter Bromby had a 5 minute lead over the next Etchells in race 5 and that says it all. After a PMS in race 1 which led top an 8, he's been almost perfect.

The J-24 class is the only class up for grabs. Canadians Rudy Wolfs and Sean McDermott are at the top with 13 and 17 points. Bermudan Trevor Boyce who slipped to 3rd at 19 points but is still seriously in the hunt.

Vezina, a regular in the Bermuda Etchells fleet switched to Lasers and scored 1-1-1-4-1-5-4 and dropped the 5 for 13 points. Malcolm Smith, a top Sunfish sailor, came 2nd with 16.

After the drop in the 505 group Ali Meller had all bullets 1-1-1-1-6-1 for 5 points. Jahn Tihansky was second with 2-5-2-2-1-4 with 11 points. Each day in the 505's a different racer sailed to the finish after 2 laps in a 3-lap course. That's a drop for sure

J-105 Sailor Mark Cloutier has a fast boat. In Thursday's final race he was pinched out at the committee end started late and came charging back to take 2nd just behind rival Glenn Astwood. He sailed to victory for the week with 1-3-1-1-1-1-5-2 for 10 points. Astwood was 2nd with 3-1-2-4-5-2-1-1 and 14 points

Race 1 Wednesday was won by Constable, Kevin Farrar from Fishers Island came 2nd and Davis was third. This was the final race of the "A" series.

Racing continues in J-24, IOD and Etchells keelboat classes on today, with the other classes already wrapped up.
