Lightning Class President Stands Down
The following is Mary Huntsmans last column as President of the Lighting Class for the September Lightning Class newsletter 'eflashes'.
August 19, 2001
"This is my final column as your President. I cannot express enough gratitude to those who, when asked to perform a task, said yes and carried out it to completion. There are so many of you from Salinas through Southern Circuits, regattas, Greece, Fishing Bay, Annapolis, Marsala and now the North Americans in Vermont. Congratulations to Jeff and Steve and their crews. Check out the pictures to see what wonderful places we sail, so alike and yet so different and all the people it takes to run these events.
If you see someone wearing a White or Purple hat, they did a job above and beyond their expected jobs - just say "Thanks." They made my years special. Each year hundreds of volunteers are helping - just thank them. I thank all! The best to our new officers, give them any time you can and let them hear what you would like to be done in the future. Make Karen's job easier by responding to her
requests immediately.
We accomplished a lot! Your Executive Officers run the class for you through the Governing Board which represents each one of you through the fleet and district.
The Web: What a long way we have come - this is where we need to be. if you haven't started using it, please do. As we keep adding features, they're highlighted by NEW. Mark does a wonderful job for us, giving us many hours. Give him the info and up it goes! He wears a Purple Hat. Sandy and I are on our way to Metedeconk for US SAILING's Sears Cup Finals. There are three Lightning teams from the Junior NA's competing. It will be posted on our site but you can also follow on the web at US Sailing.
I will continue to complete what I started . . . gifting Lightning Number One to Mystic Seaport and gathering all the documentation of the Class so that we can all enjoy it. Our past is our history and our history is our future. Contact me from now on at historian@lightningclass.org A huge thank you to my family and long time friend Jim Carson.
