Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2005
Busan, Korea

The Singapore Sailing Federation is sending a team of eight sailors to compete in the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship in Busan, Korea from 14-23 July.
2005 will be the ninth straight ISAF Youth Worlds that Singapore have attended and their 14th overall. The country have started to see the fruits of their labour as well, becoming only the second Asian nation to win a medal at the Championship, thanks to a silver medal by Junhao TAY and Dahui OU in the 420 boys competition in 2001. This year an expanded Singapore team sees entrants in all the competitions bar the two windsurfer events. They will be supported by team manager Andrew SANDERS and coaches Brett BEYER and ZHANG Yong Qiang.

Experience in the Singapore team comes in the two double-handed dinghy events. Dawn LIU and Siobhan TAM will have high hopes of success in the 420. Last year they finished fifth in the competition, and none of the event's medal will be competing again in Busan this year. TEO Wee Chin and Terence KOH will also fancy their chances in the 420 boys event. Last year in Gdynia, Poland they came sixth overall and none of the five teams who finished above them will be sailing on Suyong Bay.
