ISAF World Match Race Rankings

The Match Race Rankings, released on Friday, show plenty of room for movement and perhaps some surprise positions, especially in the Open Rankings, in which we see a new leader after the latest round of event results.
Open

The Danish top the men's ranking with Jesper Radich, fresh from his victory over countryman Jes Gram-Hansen in the Bermuda Gold Cup, making his first appearance at the top of the tree, albeit by the narrowest of margins - just 20 points separate the two leading men.

Karol Jablonski (POL), World Champion Ice Sailor as well as reigning ISAF World Match Racing Champion, remains steady in third place in the rankings whilst previously ranked number one, Peter Holmberg (ISV), currently on Louis Vuitton Cup duty with Oracle BMW Racing has dropped to third overall.

The biggest move up in the men's rankings, from sixteenth to eighth comes from Johnie Berntsson (SWE). With a recent string of successes in grade 2 and 3 events, he makes his first foray into the top ten in the world. Henrik Jensen, second recently in the Swedish National Championship, makes his first appearance in the top twenty.

Ironically, arguably one of the best starting helmsmen in the Louis Vuitton Cup, James Spithill (AUS), currently sailing with OneWorld, has this time round dropped out of the top twenty and now resides in 36 position.

Women

Marie Bjorling (SWE) remains at the top of the women's rankings, despite only managing to finish second in the Bermuda International Women's Championship. Malin Millbourn, with a victory in the Saint Quay Women's Match Racing, moves up a credible six places into second.

The biggest shock is the drop of current ISAF World Champion Lis Baylis (USA) from third to sixth, after a disappointing result in Bermuda. A new entry into the top twenty Martina Karlemo (FIN) moves up to seventeenth place from twenty fourth.

With the Rolex Osprey Cup starting this Wednesday in St Petersburg, Florida, many of the competitors will be hoping to consolidate or improve their ISAF ranking. One such sailor is Klaartje Zuiderbaan (NED) having recently returned to match racing from the Volvo Ocean Race aboard Amer Sports Too, she has immediately improved her position from twentieth to ninth, and looks forward to further improvement.

Linda Rahm (SWE, who's new husband Mattias is consolidating his poition in the top twenty of the Open Rankings at fourteenth, moves up from nineteenth to sixteenth following her recent fourth place at the BUKOWSKIS Womens Nordic Match Racing Championship.
