POLLARD sailed with a crew of four including his 'secret weapon' Kate BROWN who sailed with Nicole SOUTER in winning the Australian women's match-racing championship last year.
Later in the day, with the nor'easter kicking in to 18 knots, the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron race committee managed to get extra two flights for those competitors on the water in the afternoon.

Experienced Sailor

Another to complete seven flights - and win four - was American Payson INFELISE from the Newport Yacht Club in California.
MINOPRIO, while sailing for the first time in the Hardy Cup, is an experienced match-racing sailor having finished an excellent fourth in last week's ISAF Grade 1 match-racing regatta in Auckland.
"We were stoked in reaching the semi-finals in the Auckland Cup - Australia's James SPITHILL was sixth," MINOPRIO said this evening at the RSYS. "Today we had some great racing on Sydney Harbour in light and tricky morning wins; we won and lost some racing rules protests and we scored well in several close flights," he added.

Victims

MINOPRIO's victims today included fellow New Zealander Laurie JURY, Australians Stuart POLLARD, Torvar MIRSKY, winner of last week's Warren JONES Memorial Regatta in Perth and runner-up Keith SWINTON, and Japan's Yuki NAGAHORI.
Jury also beat POLLARD, MIRSKY, SWINTON and NAGAHORI while POLLARD had wins against fellow RSYS skipper Mark DORLING, Australian women's match racing champion Nicky SOUTER, Keith SWINTON and NAGAHORI.
Half of the 12 teams sailed seven flights today, the others five flights each.

Racing continues

Surprise of the racing today was the mediorcre performance of Torvar MIRSKY, the highly ranked Royal Perth Yacht Club representative and winner of last week's Warren JONES Youth Regatta who scored only two wins in seven flights.
Fellow West Austrlian Keith SWINTON, from the South of Perth Yacht Club, and runner-up in the Warren JONES Regatta, had just one win in five flights.
The RSYS's top ranked Mark DORLING, who finished second in last year's Hardy Cup, had three wins out of seven flights, while the two women skippers Katie SPITHILL and Nicole SOUTER had three and two wins respectively.
Racing continues on Sydney Harbour tomorrow and through to Thursday in what is now regarded as one of the premier ISAF-sanctioned under 25 match racing regattas.
