New Zealand Pre-Olympic Regatta Team Announced

The New Zealand Team to take part in the ISAF Grade 2 Qingdao International Regatta, the second Olympic Test Event, has been announced by Yachting New Zealand's Olympic Committee. The regatta is being approached as a dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games.

The team for Qingdao is:

Selection was subjective and based primarily upon consideration by Yachting New Zealand's Olympic Committee of sailors' ability to medal at the 2008 Olympic Games.

Additional sailors, in unselected classes, may be added to this team should future performance warrant this. This will be determined and announced by Yachting New Zealand's Olympic Committee in due course.

The Qingdao International Regatta, the second and final Olympic Test Event for the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition, takes place from 9-24 August 2007. Almost exactly one year later sailing in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will get underway at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre.

At the 2006 Olympic Test Event, New Zealand picked up two medals, with ALEH finishing second in the Laser Radial and MURDOCH third in the Laser.

Qingdao is an eastern Chinese coastal city in the Shandong Province. It has a northern temperate zone monsoon climate and is located 690 km to the east of Beijing. The competition area is in the Jiangquan Bay, Fushan Bay and outside of Damai Island.
