The Irish Sailing Association has announced that leading sailor and international businessman Colm BARRINGTON is to succeed Anthony O'LEARY as Chairman of the ISA's Olympic Group (ISAOG) and that James O'CALLAGHAN is to take up the newly created post of Olympic Head Coach.
Colm has a quality racing pedigree, from Enterprises, through Dragons and more recently in his 'Gloves' series of offshore racing yachts. Currently the holder of the Round Ireland Race Record, Colm is a leading aviation finance expert and a member of the Board of the newly established Dublin Airports Authority.

James will take responsibility for developing and delivering athlete-focussed, coach-led, performance-measured programmes across the ISA's high performance pathway. James will work alongside Performance Manager Garrett CONNOLLY and ISA's Youth Performance Manager Bill O'HARA under the guidance of the new ISAOG.

James, 31 from Malahide in Dublin, is a business and economics graduate of Trinity College. He is a Level 3 qualified coach and Level 2 coach tutor.

At the Athens 2004 Olympics the International Laser Class employed James with responsibility for looking after the developing nations. At the Sydney Olympics in 2000 James coached the South African and Seychelles teams.

In total, he has coached at seven ISAF World Youth Sailing Championships. In 1998 an athlete coached by James won a Gold Medal, and in 2001 and 2002 his sailors achieved Bronze Medals.

His broad range of experience also includes coaching at numerous European and World Championship events across multiple Olympic classes.
