MIRSKY came out of his corner today fighting for early points. He is aiming for a podium finish in this year's regatta with fourth his best result from the three international match racing regattas he has previously contested at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.

Although MIRSKY's preparation for day one was not ideal, having to take the 'red eye' flight from Perth last night, lack of sleep did not appear to disadvantage his team's performance and he and JARVIN now share the lead on eight points with one loss each.

Just one point behind is the CYCA team led by Evan WALKER (AUS) and the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron's Stuart POLLARD (AUS) who are tied on seven points. WALKER's performance today was outstanding as he matched it with POLLARD, an experienced skipper who is highly regarded on the youth match racing circuit.

Surprisingly, top placings did not include the current Australian Youth Match Racing Champion Hamish ROUGHLEY (AUS). After a disappointing first day, he and his crew are looking forward to fighting back tomorrow in the second round robin.

Today's shifty and gusty southeasterly breeze tested competitors' tactics and boat handling skills while the fierce on water competition tested the umpires' knowledge and application of the rules.

'The sailing was very aggressive and there was lots of 'Y' flagging from competitors requesting penalties,' said regatta organizer Jenni BONNITCHA.

Principal Race Officer Doug TALTY was pleased that a full round robin of 45 matches was completed today and he is hoping to complete the second round robin of the four day regatta in tomorrow's forecast northeasterly sea breeze.
