The Beijing organizers for the 2008 Olympic Games and the French Embassy in Beijing extended a warm welcome to three French interns at a meeting in the office of the Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad - Beijing 2008 (BOCOG) today.
According to BOCOG International Relations Department, the students' arrival is a result of cooperation between BOCOG and the French Embassy, with an aim at providing members of the Olympic Family and athletes with good service in French and promoting the use of French in the Olympiad.

An official in charge of the department said that BOCOG sincerely welcomes the interns as language is an important component of Olympic service and BOCOG has studied the matter specifically. The French students said they feel honored to take part in the work and will do their part for the 2008 Olympiad.

To meet the needs of service in French during the Games, BOCOG and the French Embassy arrived at agreement on sending French interns to practice in Beijing. The Embassy plans to send interns with each group consisting of three students for a term of six months.

The first batch arrived on Friday. The three outstanding students are chosen from France's schools specializing in translator training. To ensure a successful cooperation, BOCOG and the students are going to sign contracts on such items as the sharing of responsibilities in relevant programmes.
