From the four nominations received, Carl-Gustaf FRESK (SWE) and John TWOMEY (IRL) were elected to the Executive Board. More information on the new Vice-Presidents can be found by clicking on their names.

Over the past six months, a team of athletes, industry professionals and respected doctors conducted an extensive equipment evaluation of three boats nominated by RNAs. IFDS recognizes and appreciates the cooperation, interest and efforts of all of the boats and manufacturers.

The Equipment Evaluation Committee recommendation was presented at the AGM today, accepted by the IFDS Executive Committee and endorsed by the IFDS Recognized National Authorities. The equipment used in the Two-Person event will be the UD-18, an Australian Mitchell/Bethwaite design.

The UD-18 is a lead-assisted skiff with similar lines to the, 29er or 49er. With a tube-launched asymmetrical spinnaker and a modified 29er rig, the boat promises to be an exciting addition to World and Paralympic Competition. Able-bodied and disabled athletes alike will enjoy this platform - and more severely disabled sailors will welcome the ability to compete on an equitable level.

Both of the crew of this class will be disabled and will be comprised of at least one female. One of the crew will be classified with an IFDS International Classification 1. The Functional Classification System for the Two-Person Keelboat was recommended by the IFDS Medical Committee, Endorsed by the IFDS Executive Committee and Approved by the IFDS Members (RNA's) during the AGM and will be distributed promptly to enable countries to compile the crews.
